Simon;"The GLOVES ARE OFF!"
Simon for governor campaign ^ | 08/29/02 | Bill Simon

Gray Davis continues to distort the truth and make false accusations against me, and ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

The GLOVES ARE OFF!

Simonforgovernor.com

We have unveiled a new ad that strikes at the core of Davis’ Pay-to-Play antics in the Governor’s office. The ad, titled “This Whole Thing Stinks,” highlights Davis’ willingness to sell even our children’s health to the highest bidder.

“This Whole Thing Stinks”

A Gray Davis board stopped a big oil company, Tosco, from dumping more dioxin into our water.

But, the very next day, Tosco gave more than $50,000 to Davis’s campaign.

The Davis board quickly reversed itself…

…and allowed Tosco to increase cancer- causing dioxin dumping… 400%.

Yawner. How long before Simon succumbs to 'the Republican disease' and apologizes for some of his staffs' being unduly - and unauthorizedly - harsh?

Disavow the Bill Simon questionnaire returned to the homosexual lobby group Log Cabin Club (with it's sellout positions), a few days ago, and maybe then wallets will be opened up once again.

SIMON.

I hate Grayout Davis, but if Simon is making such a pathetic swipe like this on Dioxin, a political-scare tactic suited to enviro-politicos....then what's the point?

California is in an awful mess, and it can only get worse. If Davis wins - and he probably will by default - California will keep a governor that just suits its third-world status.

One might argue that this Republican "disease" as you call it affects 80 percent of our candidates and officeholders. Even the "hard-core" try to put a "happy face" on conservative principles. They are still afraid of the "soccer moms" no matter how courageous they would like to be. "Soccer moms" vote, and they lean Democrat, but every Republican dreams of "persuading" them to his side. Usually he offers Democrat pablum to recruit such potential voters.

Here's on I just got a minute ago:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 29, 2002

SIMON ROLLS OUT GOVERNMENT ETHICS PLAN AS DAVIS CONTINUES TO SHAKE DOWN

SPECIAL INTERESTS SIMON WILL NOT RAISE MONEY DURING LEGISLATIVE
SESSION'S CLOSE

SACRAMENTO - With Governor Gray Davis capitalizing on the flurry of
end-of-session legislation to squeeze even more campaign dollars from
special interests, gubernatorial nominee Bill Simon today unveiled his
plan to address government ethics in Sacramento - an issue quickly swept
aside in the Davis administration.

Speaking before the Rotary Club of Sacramento, Simon said one had only
to apply the Rotarians own test of truth, fairness, building goodwill
and working for the benefit of all, in order to expose the ethical
shortcomings of Gray Davis' governorship.

"I would argue that if California's governor lived by the Rotarian's
test, our state would be in much better shape," Simon said. "But time
and time again, Gray Davis has failed that test. That is especially
troubling because we should be able to expect so much more from our
governor. After all, serving the public is not merely Gray Davis' job,
it should be his honor as the highest elected official in the state."

Simon said years of questionable fundraising activity have created an
atmosphere among Californians that Davis is running a pay to play
administration.

"Public confidence today is shaken in many of our institutions, and no
more so than in our government. As governor, I will take clear and
unambiguous steps to restore accountability and trust in our
government," Simon said.

The plan includes: an independent audit of all state spending; ensuring
taxpayers are not stuck footing the bill to an out-of-balance budget by
instituting a mid-year budget review with the possibility of automatic
spending cuts; and ending sole source contracting.

Simon also said a special effort must be taken in order to end the
campaign cash for policy appearance created by the Davis administration.

"When I am governor, voters will know that my decisions are guided by
sound public policy, not campaign contributions. That's why I'll even
avoid the appearance of impropriety by not raising money during the
final month of legislative session and during the 30-day bill signing
period following it," Simon said.

As I see it, we could elect Elmer Fudd and have a better state than we have now.

Quit b!tching. Either donate and get on board, or get out! No Davis-lovers or defeatists allowed.

Bill Simon's going to win this election and a lot of naysayers are going to be eating crow.

Simon looks ready to go aggressively negative, and he's going to need to hit Gay Davis hard where it counts -- on the fact that Davis has raised all this incredibly dirty money. Heck, where's John McLame? You'd think with all of Gray Dirtvis's campaign finance shenanigans, McLame would be up there stumping for Simon big time.

Read David Horowitz's "How to Beat Democrats" or "The Art of the Political War" and you'll change your tune.

The Republicans need to learn how to communicate our message better. The basic Republican ideas of freedom, hope and opportunity resonate with the majority of voters, but we get so stuck talking about facts and figures, statistics, etc. that we forget people absorb everything in a minute or two and then tune out.

We need to do what the Democrats do and talk to the HEART of the people. Great conservative statesman Tom McClintock does it best: he brings everything down to the average family of four. "This will cost the average family of four $1,200". He doesn't talk mega-numbers (such as a $3.7 billion tax increase) which doesn't mean much to anyone. But if YOUR taxes are going to be raised $117 every paycheck, you stand up and take notice.

Anyway, it's communication communication communication. We're right on the issues and principles, we have to learn to communicate them better to appeal to more people who would agree if we just learned how to talk.
