Looking closely at the photo, there are probably no more than 200 people crammed into the photo shot. The sides and backgound are almost empty. All of which means that the press account is bogus or third hand.

Also, this is a really funny DUmmyland rant about POed greenies bashing RATS:

I was at the Not In Our Name Rally today in Central Park. I expected to
attend a gathering where people of all different parties could come together
to show our support for a peaceful resolution to the crisis in Iraq. I came
with a friend of mine who is a member of The New York State Democratic
Committee. He had just been successful in his efforts to get the State
Party to go on record in opposition to Bush's war. I was wearing a Carl
McCall for Governor pin and you would think I was wearing a swastika from
the responses I got ! There were signs everywhere saying if you vote
Democratic, you are supporting the War (funny, since I just recieved a
letter from my Dem. Representative expressing her opposition to Bush's
policies).
I am as disgusted with Gephardts position as anyone, but the truth
is, The Democratic Party is deeply divided on this issue, and Green attempts
to portray Democrats as monolithicly pro-war are simply dishonest ! When
I was asked why I did not support Stanley Aronowitz (the Green Party
candidate for Governor), I replied that McCall opposes the Death Penalty,
the Rockefeller Drug Laws and supports a host of other progressive causes similar to
the Green Party Platform. I was then heckled and called a liar (McCall's
positions are a matter of public record). The woman i was trying to discuss
this with refused to accept that McCall was anti- Death Peanlty and then
went on to chant "Vote Your Hopes, Not Your fears !"

That is exactly what I am doing, my hope is the War can be averted and I
don't see how re-electing Pataki or opposing my anti-war congresswoman is
going to do any good.

I'm all for criticizing any member of congress who supports Bush's rush
to war, but the blanket of lies being spread by shrill ideolougues with no
appreciation for the internal struggles going on within the Democratic Party
serves noone.

My friend who spent weeks getting the State Democratic Party to oppose
the war was quite gracious given the utter lack of appreciation for the
work of anti-war Democrats.

I don't care who gets the credit for helping to slow the war machine,
but it's pretty clear (Given Al Gore's recent comments) that we wouldn't be
in this dangerous situation had Bush not become President. Gore, for all his faults, is an internationalist and would not be pursuing Bush's deadly policies. That matters little to the tiny minority on the Left who celebrated Bush's victory. The hollow
slogans and chants of those who condemn every position to the right of
Trotsky are not going to save anybody and thier misrepresentation of the
views of those who are working hard within the Democratic Party to stop this
war do nothing but alienate potential allies.

Unilateral action in Iraq could be a global catastrophe. This is no time to distort and ignore the work of good people who are trying to avert this disaster because (like Dennis Kucinich, Barbara Lee, Ted Kennedy, Jim McDermott) they are Democrats.
