LANSING -- As demonstrators faced a judge Thursday for staging a die-in at a military recruiters' office, they made another attempt to voice their opinions about America's sanctions against Iraq.
"I plead for the victims of war," said Leslie Schultz, when Town of Lansing Judge John Howell asked for her plea regarding the charges. "God forgive us for teaching of fear and hate."

"I plead for the victims of war...God forgive us for teaching of fear and hate." "I plead on behalf of mothers and fathers of children in Iraq,"
LMAO. These idiots are killin' me, here.
As one of the 13 arrested, Neil Golder said getting arrested is sometimes necessary to get points across. "When you actually have to put convictions on the line where they may cause discomfort for yourself it shows stronger commitment," Golder said.
Then why not just plead guilty?
Wasn't the whole point of civil disobedience, as practiced by Thoreau and others, to go to jail to show how strong your opposition to violence was? So why plead not guilty?
Unless, they are simply using the war as an excuse to get attention for themselves and engage in "risk free" criminal behavior.

When you actually have to put convictions on the line where they may cause discomfort for yourself it shows stronger commitment," Golder said. Going to Iraq and joining the Republican Guard would show even stronger commitment Mr. Golder. Yours, pleading NG after spending one night in jail, seems laughably weak.

He can protest to his heart's content, but I don't think it's fair to classify "infringing on the rights of others" as "causing discomfort to yourself."

Having been involved in the Correctional field, I can assure you pissing off the judge is a bad strategy.

I live in Lansing. We are a suburb outside ithaca, pro-business and have essentially the main tax base in Tompkins County. We are distinctly not Ithaca. They should never have ventured outside the Ithaca City limits. Lansing is Republican. The judge will throw the book at them.

(Lansing is not Ithaca as these people may well learn.)

However, it does seem that the tendrils of Ithaca spread further and further out into Tompkins County every year (which is part of why it is the "city of evil").

"A lot of the people being recruited are my age," Ritter said.
"There are other ways to solve the problem."
