Israeli-Arab Polygamy: Existential Threat

The Interior Ministry, in a report entitled "Polygamy in Israel," shows that Israel is paying through the nose to 20,000 Israeli-Arab men who have married multiple wives from other countries and thus receive child-support payments for them. The report, submitted to Prime Minister Sharon yesterday, was prepared by Brig.-Gen. (res.) Herzl Gedz, head of the Ministry's Population Registry.

"The State of Israel, for known reasons, is a choice destination for non-Jewish immigrants from various other countries," states the report, quoted in Maariv today, "and especially from Arab nations and the Palestinian Authority. This wave of immigration is very dangerous to Israel's national security, presenting a security, criminal, and political danger, an economic burden, and especially a demographic danger for the future of the State."

The report gives examples. One Arab man is married to six women - many of them from other countries, has 54 children, and receives National Insurance payments of 25,000 shekels each month. Another Arab man living in the Sharon area is married to five women, has 35 children, and receives 16,500 shekels. A month.

"The increasing number of foreigners who receive permanent status in Israel because of illegal marriages demands that we reconsider this phenomenon, change the law, and fight it unyieldingly. These are citizens or residents who violate the country's laws, marry according to Islam with the knowledge of Moslem religious authorities who receive aid and salaries from the State of Israel."

Maariv quoted a very senior government source saying, "Not only is this an existential security and demographic threat, it is also a tremendous economic expense. Israel, under the guise of democracy, gives out billions of shekels to Israeli-Arabs…" He said that Sharon, the Justice Minister and law-enforcement officials will "soon" meet to discuss the problem.

According to Israeli statistics, there are approximately 35,000 abortions in the state of Israel per year; 18-19,000 of them are through the state-run health care system, and another (estimated) 16,000 are through private clinics. There are something like 120,000 live births in Israel every year off a population base of 6 million.

That would yield something like a 30% abortion rate (higher than the U.S.'s 25%), but the story doesn't end there. When I see stories like this one, it leads me to believe that the 1 million or so Israeli Arabs are doing most of the breeding; Islam doesn't condone abortion. So the abortion rate among Jewish Israelis must be much, much higher.

I need to get better statistics, and the ones I quoted above were rough but generally accurate. I'm sure the most complete demographic data on Israeli live births vs. abortions are in Hebrew and thus unreadable to me. Still, I would ask supporters of Israel (I'm one of them) this: how long can Israel survive as a Jewish state when Jewish women are aborting their children at a rate probably approaching 50%, while the Arabs just keep banging away like broken screen doors and having 35, 54 kids at a whack?

And having the Jews pay for it?

Point 1: If you subsidize something, you will tend to get more of it. Stop subsidizing it.

Point 2: If your native born population aborts itself, it will very likely be replaced by people who do not abort themselves.

Something similar to the latter is happening in the US. We have something like a million abortions per year. And we receive approximately a million new immigrants, both legal and illegal, per year.

Keep in mind that the highest birth rates of Jews in Israel are of the Orthodox; who never get abortions.

All the Shinui-bigots, who want to cut off all stipends for Haredi Jews with large families, do they want to cut off aid to Arabs as well? Or are they afraid of being called "racist"?

Keep in mind that the Orthodox with large families are also voters. The children they raise also become voters. This frightens shinui most of all.
