ITHACA -- Ithaca's war tax resisters took their case to the public today, donating what they say would have been their federal income tax dollars to causes they support.
War tax resisters do not pay federal income taxes as a way of protesting wars and the defense budget. Mary Loehr, head of the local war tax resisters league, said they typically redirect those funds to charities and other not-for-profit groups.

Pete Meyers, another tax resister...Longtime Freepers may remember that Meyers was the Green party's candidate for Sheriff in 1992, and actually received approximately twenty-five percent of the vote against the Democrat incumbant.
No Republican ran for the office, which is typical in Ithaca.
Ithaca is the City of Evil.

Well, I'd like to redirect my tax dollars away from entitlements for deadbeats and aid to the un, and any country that shelters, sells to, or otherwise supports terrorists!

If we're spending it on arms, we're not spending it on health care, on children, on education
Sorry folks, at this point we decided it was best to protect our freedom so we can continue to support those schools and health care facilities you referred to.

"There's only so much money to go around. If we're spending it on arms, we're not spending it on health care, on children, on education," Loehr said. If we're all killed by terrorists attacks, there won't be a need for health care or education. None of us will be there to use it.

If this type of tax resistance catches on, these flakes are going to find that the issues so near and dear to their hearts, come in close to the bottom. If people are going to be able to pick and choose where their tax dollars are to be spent, I do not think left-wing causes are going to come in first. I would not feel too bad if my entire tax check went to the DoD, if just to spite these ignoramuses.
I hope someone keeps this forum informed if these clowns get away this. I would dearly love to be in on a counter-measure of some sort.

Looks like these people should be eligeable for an "economic" Darwin award. Once they attract the wrath of the IRS, they will be to busy defending themselves in audits and paying so much in penalties, their anti-war, anti-American efforts will be substantially reduced.

Bust 'em, book 'em, prosecute 'em, convict 'em, and imprison 'em.
And don't shed a tear for the rubbish. I know them well as a FORMER resident of Tompkins County.

What gives these bozos the right to supercede the government and redirect their tax obligations.
If they want to act like Al Capone, they can all be locked up for tax evasion or they can move to land of traitors aka France.

I wonder how many of these tax resisters are getting a government check?

I wonder how many of these tax resisters are getting a government check? I'll bet at least a few of them are either school teachers or employed by Cornell, which is partially funded by the State of New York.
