For what it's worth...

I can't speak for Utah, but I have been amazed at what I have learned since my divorce. I have dated 6 women. 4 of them have been raped. 2 were attacked as children, the other 2 as adults. I have no doubt that they ar telling the trouth.

My female friends tell me that I am just the kind of guy who women feel safe around, and are just willing to open up to. I asked them if this seemed strange or if what I was seeing was normal. Every one of them said that I am probably not meeting a much higher percentage of victims, but that the world is just a much worse place than I want to believe.

If more women were armed, there would be fewer real rapes.

IMHO

I have dated two women who told me they were raped, although one was by her then "boyfriend" with whom she had previously had sex. The other was as a child. Of course, this sampling is taken from the umptyteen different women I've dated in my life.

THe problem with your sample is its somewhat biased. Chances are that available women that you are encountering have relationship problems otherwise they would be in lasting relationships. Further, the likelihood that cause of these relationship problems stem from prior abuse is high. Therefore, its more likely that you will encounter available women who have been abused then exists in the general population.

No you are on target. Women have a fairly high probability of being sexually assaulted. In my acquaintanceships over thirty five years of women from all walks of life and economic circumstances I have consistantly been surprised at the high percentages who have experienced rape in the full sense of the word, or sexual abuse as minors. The sexual abuse I refer to is not some uncle who copped a quick feel, but anal sex, penetration using objects, forcing oral sex on the child, as either reciepient or provider.

I will not deny that there is misuse and misrepresentation of of the word rape. Despite this... serioius rape and sexual abuse has occurred and is occurring, in my opinion, in significant percentages.

Your experience is not unique nor is it a new phenomenon. I've dated several women as long as 32 years ago who told me they were raped and according to their accounts, none of them fit NOW's broad definition.

One was forced to perform oral sex with a knife to her throat and another was held captive for sixteen hours and repeatedly raped and sodomized. Others suffered so called "date rape."

There are a significant number of sick, narcissistic men out there. Thank goodness neither you nor I are among them.
