The Running Man (Arnold Schwarzenegger)
Opinion Journal ^ | Thursday, August 7, 2003 | JAMES TARANTO

Will he win? Well, he'll bring new voters to the polls--we saw this in Minnesota with Jesse [Ventura]. People who never voted will find it cool to vote for Arnie, and even though they might not be the most sophisticated participant in the process, they'll probably intuit that a vote isn't just a thumbs-up statement. It means something. Yelling "I bought your video" doesn't really put an actor in your debt, but shouting "I voted for you" somehow does.

I like the Constitution as it is now. Anyway the history of expatriot Austrians running other countries is not very good. Every once in a while the Wall Street Journal editorial writers get a bit flakey.

Personally, I like Arnold. I will not however, forget soon the day that he came to Massachusetts in order to campaign for fat Teddy when fat boy had a serious challenge to his Senate seat back in 1994. He (Arnold) is not a principled conservative.

Maybe it's time to amend the Constitution to allow foreign-born citizens to serve as president, so long as they have held American citizenship for at least 14 years (the current provision requires 14 years' residency as well as native citizenship). If this were done within five years, Schwarzenegger could run in 2008 to succeed President Bush

Sheesh! Arnold may be the best Republican we could expect to win in California, but lets not push it.

He (Arnold) is not a principled conservative.

He is not even a principled moderate.

Funny I often find principled conservatives to be rather respectful of their wife's wishes.

He is a true alpha male, a needed antidote after 5 years of wimpy tofu shake drinking Gray Davis, just like we needed a moral and responsible George Bush to heal 8 years of national moral damage from BJ Clinton.

President Schwarzenegger standing astride the world stage, towering over the puny likes of Jacques Chirac and Gerhard Schroeder

He wouldn't tower over many people.

Not only is Taranto supporting liberal plant,
Schwarzenegger, but he wants a constitutional ammendment
allowing him to be president.
Schwarzenegger is the worst choice for the California GOP.
He supports social spending programs, is socially liberal,
and supports bringing in companies only so they can
subsidies social experimentation. Schwarzenegger would be a
disaster on immigration. Being the son of Nazis and an
immigrant, the Governator would be held hostage by the
racial and other leftist lobbies. The results would be no
end to affirmative action, no mention of immigration, and
more social experimentation foisted onto companies.
For all his talk about fixing California, Schwarzenegger
would be forced into taking it down the Gray-out express.
Thus we would get all the damage of leftist policies, but
they would be implimented by a Republican.
And the Wall Street Journal wants to change the consitution
so the whole country can follow California's fate?
If you are going to sell out the concept of nationalism,
you should get something in return!

The reason I want Tom McClintock to run is to keep Arnold honest.
