Need FREEPER help in UTAH

I have just received a call from a friend asking me to locate a United Methodist Church in Vernal, Utah. I can't find one listed anywhere in that city. My friend is desparate with worry about her sister who lives there and is in need of Christian help. Her sister is very ill and has three little boys. With no extended family there she has no one to help her except her husband. She is probably dying because of lack of blood transfusions and she has Pneumonia, yet she is at home having been discharged from a hospital in Salt Lake City. From what I can determine they will not give her blood transfusions. Is there a Morman law against this? Anyway, I am attempting to locate someone in that part of the country who can attempt to help this woman. Thanks for any help you can give me, and also pray for the poor woman.

Mormons have no problems with blood transfusions. Here's a bump.

I think it's the Jehovah's Witnesses that have a problem with transfusions.

Here's a map of Methodist Churchs in Utah. Good luck to you both.

Thanks sweetie. I already had that list and have sent an e-mail to the Community Church. Just thought maybe someone from that area might know of a UMC in a nearby town. If not I will contact some more of these other churches.

There doesn't appear to be one in that community. You can try to search neighboring communities here:

click on "Find a Church" near the top.

Thanks Helix. It looks as if there are none near Vernal. I guess it will be up to some of the other churches.

I did already Par. Thank you very much. I thought there might be a rural church near the town, but it appears not. Guess I'm too used to one being on every corner.

I am very familiar with Vernal. It will be difficult to find a UMC church there, but Mormons are not against transfusions.

Good luck to your friend.

If your friend thinks she needs blood transfusions and the doctor in Salt Lake doesn't think so, then what she needs most is a second opinion.

If she really needs a a blood transfusion then it's probably something more serious than pneumonia. She should be trying to find a tertiary care teaching hospital. But, again, if she's truly in danger of dying she needs to see another doctor, preferably at an academic medical center, pronto.

I think the blood transfusion idea may be a misunderstanding by her sister. I just called her sister and told her there is no prohibition against transfusions by the Mormans. I didn't think there was, but wanted to clarify that. Anyway she is going to try to call her sister again and determine exactly why she is not still in the hospital and why her blood count is so low. I think a lot of the problem is fear on my friend's part and not being able to go help her sister. She just naturally wants to reach out to the Church for help. I think the best thing we can do is pray for the sister and for my friend, and I will continue to try contacting other denominations in the area.

I'm not sure what is going on medically. It seems the woman has had three feet of intestines removed and now has Pneumonia. It seems strange that she would be at home, so it's hard to say what the best course is. I'm just trying to help a friend who called on me to help.

Mormons have no "laws" against blood transfusions. I would be totally surprised if your sister couldn't get all the help she needs from the local Mormon community.

I'm glad that has been established Spiff. The woman is not my sister. She is the sister of a friend who called me asking for help. I don't know the woman in Utah.
