Yeah, the Dems will probably strip off ANWAR. They are great at using human misery to their political advantage.

But Democrats also say Mr. Bush will be under increased pressure this fall to pass a bill to address the nation's electricity problems and that the White House may be forced to abandon Arctic oil drilling as its price. Yeah, maybe. And Democrats may catch all sorts of grief if the White House sells this history right - much as the [gasp] NY Times just did.

"Democrats and environmentalists vigorously attacked the meetings as evidence that the administration was relying too heavily on advice from people in the energy industry."
Yeah, God forbid that an actual energy policy involve those from the energy industry...oh, the horror of it all.

That's okay - after 2004 - the dems will be out of power for 40-50 years - and we will be able to drill in ANWR and other necessary places and become truly self-sufficient.
I don't think giving up ANWR is such a big deal - I could be wrong, but at this time I don't see it as a big deal.

The President should immediately fly Air Force One and Two up to Prudhoe Bay on a Press Junket... and chopper down to ANWR (that is assuming that there were a decent enough landing strip there). He should have Fox News, MSNBC and any other video media along to see what he will see. Do NOT let CBS run down a couple hundred miles to the very southern end of ANWR and then filming 20 miles below that show pristine mountain herds of whatever. The Choppers go only to ANWR's proposed drilling fields. No further. Staunch the bleeding from the domestic propaganda mills.

WOW...the truth from the NY Times? She forgot to include that aborted Senate inquiry into Cheny's choices of energy industry execs to interview in his attempt to put a cohesive energy policy before congress. Anyone heard anything substantive about Haliburton or Enron lately?
Didn't think so.
Still it's a good editorial. Shame it's only a token piece the Times can point to when charged with bias. It'll be buried under the mountains of anti-Bush propaganda the Times puts out every week.

Since last week's blackout, those proposals have again taken on new urgency, and Mr. Bush, like other politicians, has been compelled to speak out. Mr Bush is not like any other FRigging politician he is the President...
