TITABOR (ASSAM, INDIA): A 21-year-old Indian from Assam is all set to become the world’s hottest woman.
Anandita Dutta from Titabor village, 325 km east of Assam’s principal city of Guwahati, has a fiery habit - gobbling 100 red hot chillies in a minute without batting an eyelid or shedding a tear.
And her bizarre eating habit could earn her fame as she is leaving for London on an invitation by the Guinness Book of World Records.
“I am thrilled at the invitation and even more overjoyed as the Guinness Book of World Records says in its letter that no one has ever created a record in the chilli eating category,” Dutta told IANS.
“Initially we were worried, with no funds available to make my trip to London. But now a local sponsor has agreed to foot my travel bill to enable me to create history.”
She looks like any other woman of her age, except for her preference for something a little more than fiery - the local chilli variety called the Naga Jolokia or capsicum frutescens.
Last year, scientists claimed that the Naga Jolokia was the world’s hottest.
The variety surpassed the pungency level of Red Savina Habanero, a variety found in Mexico and popularly known as the “Mexican chilli”, said experts at the Defence Research Laboratory at Tezpur in northern Assam.
The hotness of the Naga Jolokia chilli, measured in Scoville units, was 855 units compared to the Mexican chilli’s 577 units, they said.
“I have been eating Naga Jolokia since my childhood and never felt the hotness in my mouth,” she said
“I have seen people eating a small slice of the Naga Jolokia and in no time running for water and sweet things as if it was burning their stomachs.”
And to top it all, she claims she can even rub a few chillies on her eyes and still continue smiling without any irritation.
“I don’t feel any difference. I don’t know why,” she said.
Her family says she developed a liking for the hot paprika when she was a kid and does not relish any food without a generous helping of the chillies.
The Naga Jolokia, measuring about two inches in length and one centimetre in thickness, is grown mostly in most parts of the northeastern region.
