Kuwait Foils Biochem Arms Smuggling From Iraq

KUWAIT CITY (AP)--Kuwaiti security authorities have foiled an attempt to smuggle $60 million worth of chemical weapons and biological warheads from Iraq to an unnamed European country, a Kuwaiti newspaper said Wednesday.

The pro-government Al-Siyassah, quoting an unnamed security source, said the suspects had been watched by security since they arrived in Kuwait and were arrested "in due time." It didn't say when or how the smugglers entered Kuwait or when they were arrested.

The paper said the smugglers might have had accomplices inside Kuwait. It said Interior Minister Sheik Nawwaf Al Ahmed Al Sabah would hand over the smuggled weapons to an FBI agent at a news conference, but didn't say when.

Government officials couldn't be immediately reached for comment.

Iraqi Interior Minister Nouri Al-Badran met Tuesday with Sheik Nawwaf and discussed cooperation between the two countries in security matters. His visit is the first by an Iraqi interior minister to Kuwait since 1990.

If this is true, then its HUGE. The Hindustan Times has a good reputation for a non-western paper.

The original story I posted was an AP story that was run by Dow Jones Newswire. The AP story also shows up on the Hindu Times website and the story is referenced on the Kuwait News Agency site. And, of course, as has been mentioned, Drudge is now running a link to the Hindu Times website above the title on his page.

Sorry -- The story on the Hindustan times is almost exactly the same as you would get if you logged onto the WSJ and searched for Kuwait. I am not sure if I can paste the story here since it is a subscription only service...

It is a Dow Jones Newswires story and the headline is Kuwait Foils Biochem Arms Smuggling From Iraq -Newspaper

Yes, it's in the HindustanTimes, all right, as linked by Drudge. Here's a Partial Source copy:

Since its on WorldNetDaily and Drudge, talk radio had better notice. I am planning on listening to the Midnight Trucking Show (no, I'm not- its a good show) and occasionally to Charlie Jones on KRLD to see if it gets mentioned.

And just 22minutes ago posted to this link they are saying: WASHINGTON - Already shaken by the furore over the leak of a CIA operative's identity, the Bush administration is bracing for more fall-out from the Iraq invasion from a report due tomorrow that will confirm the failure to find any weapons of mass destruction - the main justification advanced for the war last March.

The headline is now front and center on Drudge. Tomorrow ought to be interesting.

I was wondering when/if Drudge was going to pick this story up. Yes, tomorrow WILL definitely be interesting!
