Glenn Beck Cites Campaign to Stop "The Real America" (his book)

Two days this week (Tuesday and Wednesday, I think), Beck claimed that there is a concerted effort to "stop" his book, and he clearly meant to prevent its printing, distribution, and sale. He also said that he has hired full-time security, something he hasn't needed for a while (he previously had it because of some post-9/11 "religion of peace" threats).

I would be interested in any CONCRETE info anyone has about this, and by that I mean publishing industry or political pressure to prevent publication.
It's an acknowledged fact that many bookstores are "hiding" it or making it tough to find (the norm for conservative books), but this sounds much more serious. I want to know if anyone has something specific they know about this.
FWIW, it seems like any effort in that direction has failed miserably, since he was informed today that his book is on the NYT best-sellers list. That doesn't change the fact that the attempt was made and that less powerful conservative authors may not be making the light of day, or are having to self-publish when it really shouldn't be necessary to get heard.

Beck has mentioned having received death threats recently, hence the security measures.

Beck.... what a waste of air time. I think this is a ratings ploy, myself. His ratings are very low in the Philadelphia area.

He's had death threats for years. When he was in Tampa after 9/11 and came out against Islamic terrorists, he started getting them.
He did mention that he got a call saying his book was going to be on the NYTimes Bestseller list, so somebody's buying it. Amazon has lots of reviews.
Did you see his website with the pic of him "groping" at a book signing, so funny.
They also put the Alan Colmes "eye" back on the front page. It was buried in the site for quite a while.

I saw Beck interviewed by Alan Coombs last night.I got in at the tail end.Beck blew the "anyone who disagees with the President's policy is unpatriotic or is called unpatriotic" out of the water...a favorite charge by the left.Honest disagreement is different than subversion of our national security.
Conservatives authors are having better luck than previously. The mainline publishers found out they were losing profits!

You think this is a ratings ploy, so you obvioiusly doubt his sincerity.
Beck is the most personally open, sincere, and least likely to "posture" of all the "major" talk hosts I have heard. Either your radio, your ears, or your head need fixing.

All of the items you mentioned are functioning properly. I don't like him, never will like him. We shall see in the long haul.

I heard many people say that his Rallys for America campaign was a ratings ploy.
But Glenn Beck used to have patriotic rallies, even when he was a nobody in a late afternoon slot in Tampa Bay.
During the 2000 Recount and other times, he'd call for impromptu rallies, and asks folks that believed in these patriotic principles to just show up at the radio station.
Because they weren't planned or announced in advance, there was no inkling of using these to boost his ratings.
I've listened to Rush, Hannity, Savage, O'Reilly, Hewitt, etc., and I think Glenn is the real deal. You may not agree with what he says, or how he presents it, but he's no phoney.

He was on H&C last night and they showed "the eye". Colmes seemed to find it rather funny.

Sorry for the dis, but I don't see how you can claim, if you listened to him when he said it, that it's a ploy.
As to the program, he is altermatively incredibly brilliant and somewhat weak. I usually can't last the whole program with him because of this.
His absolutely coolest idea is to get rid of all commerical interruptions during the first 30 minutes of each hour.

It's an acknowledged fact that many bookstores are "hiding" it or making it tough to find (the norm for conservative books),
Acknowledged by whom?
I haven't looked for Beck's book, but every time I go into Borders or B&N, I never have any problem finding books by Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannitty, etc..
In fact at both stores in Nashua NH Al Franken's "Lies and the lying Liars" is displayed side by side with Bill O'Reilly's "Who's Looking Out....."

The Rally for America could also have fallen flat on its a**, and he would have ended with major egg on his face. Since they were free and had no advance reservations or ticket, no one had any idea how many people would come.
He also had to put up with the garbage from people like NPR and BBC that the whole thing was part of a corporate conspiracy by Clear Channel to curry favor with the Bush Administration for favorable FCC rulings, when it was really totally run by Beck's people and cooperating radio stations, many of which were Clear Channel but some of which weren't.
This is in contrast to how I believe the the Rush for Excellence worked, which generally had a built-in audience, and the Hannity events, which are generally pretty low-risk in terms of the possibility of having few people attend.

At the BN today, there was ONE copy of Beck's book at the best seller's table, and the store's supply was in the Current Affairs section in the middle of the store.
Given that S&S has requested prominent display and that it has been clearly on its way to best-seller status for some time, I think that's pretty weak.
Beck has cited numerous e-mails from listeners complaining about the book's in-store visibility.

I absolutely love it when Beck gets all riled up about something. Those are always his best bits. He can be hilariously funny, sharp, and witty. I greatly appreciate his sense of humour...
But then he can go into one of his 'slow talker' modes, and you can't help but wonder if it's the same person.

I've been listening to Glenn since he was the 'afternoon' guy following Rush in Tampa. At first, I thought he was a nut, sometimes I still do. But if he is one thing, I believe that he is sincere. He is willing to stake out his ground regardless of who agrees. I've spoken to him in person, and on the air. He's the real deal. He happened, by chance, to be in Tampa the morning the Columbia went down, and he drove in to his old radio station and went live. The people of Florida feel very connected to the space program, you can see the launches, from Tampa - 200 miles away, and for EVERY launch people stand out on their decks and in their yards, looking for that little plume of smoke and fire rising in the distance. I don't know if any of his network carried any of that coverage or not, but to a lot of people in Tampa Bay it made a huge difference.

Name for me one talk show host that has not complained about books being hidden and so on... I like Beck's show, but I think it is a way to promote his book.
