Ok, the Albigensians were dualistic gnostics from most sources or accounts. I fully understand that as such they were not in communion with any type of orthodox Christian beliefs.

However, where did Jesus Christ give His flock the right to take up the sword against another group of people not involved in armed combat?

The Holy Spirit sorts out souls. Not our swords.

Luther was a dualistic gnostic? Don’t think so.

Required reading for our numbnuts in Congress.

The threat of Islam (and it is definitely a THREAT to our country) must be discussed during the 2016 presidential debates.

If this important subject is ignored, we know that the debates are merely an exercise in smoke and mirrors to confuse the electorate.

In fact, it would appear as if Islam is being promoted as the acceptable lifestyle in our country. It has been proven in history and presently that Islam and Christianity CANNOT coexist and that this situation will not change in the future. Such is the nature of Islam.

Presidential candidates had better declare which route they plan to take. If they refuse to do so, they should get off the podium.

Christ did mention selling one’s cloak and buying a sword.

I am certain that he did not meant for it to be a wooden or plastic sword.

Are you of the opinion that the Protestantism is not connected in any way to the heresies in prior history?

What a loaded question. So, as in which heresies are you referring to? According to Trent or Orange?

But I have to say, I came to this thread to offer an opinion of the crusades as a defensive war. Yet it seems you and few others would rather battle "Prots" than Muzzies.

Yes, as often cited, we are told to defend ourselves. Show me where He or any of His apostles intimated Christian shepherds were to raise armies and fight in regimental fashion. It's not there. However, the sword is given clearly to government to defend her citizens from evil.

...it seems you and few others would rather battle "Prots" than Muzzies.

And given that the topic of the thread is the Crusades, I can only conclude that some people think that a new Crusade (or at least a new Inquisition) is needed to wipe all Protestants off of the face of the earth.

And yes, I meant you.

And you wonder why people left.
It’s juvenile snark like that which divides and weakens Christianity and conservatism, driving people away.

-— Muslims had been attacking Christians for more than 450 years before Pope Urban declared the First Crusade. -—

Fair and balanced history. The great tragedy of the Crusades was the sack of Constantinople.

I’ve been here long enough to see the Freeper assessment of the Crusades reversed.

Once people view the Inquisition as an aspect of the Crusades, and learn the facts regarding its prosecution, Freeper opinion may change there as well.

Nope, just citing history, that is all. Nothing more, nothing less.

Nothing snark, just the truth.

When the government becomes the purveyor of evil, the peoples' swords must answer.

In the Middle Ages, the public promulgation of heresy was considered a crime against the State. Heretics were prosecuted. This was the case in Catholic and Protestant kingdoms.

The idea is incomprehensible to modern man, but becomes understandable when one properly classifies Mohammedanism as a great heresy.

Catharism was a “New Age” religion that forbade marriage. Its spread would have literally wiped out the nation. For this reason, Catharism was viewed as a grave threat to the State.
