Interesting tid bit: Barabbas literally means "Son of the Father" in Aramaic.
Happy Easter!

Maranatha!
Israel is to the church as the caterpillar is to the butterfly.
The Jews who followed Jesus are the Jews who are God's elect. (And the Gentiles who are grafted onto the vine -- they too are God's elect.)
The Jews who reject Jesus are like the rebels who followed Korah. Are Korah's rebels still God's elect? Obviously not.
As John the Baptist said centuries later, God can make descendants for Abraham out of stones. Ethnicity or blood mean nothing.
Disagree? Take it up with John the Baptist.
The Good News is, anyone still alive, Jew or Gentile, can become part of the Chosen People by accepting Jesus. But reject Jesus, and you walk away from being Chosen. God is not replacing you. You've replaced yourself.
Thanks for your excellent analysis. The first “Replacement Theologist” was Justin (the) Martyr (executed 165), whose writings were refined and harvested by Eusebius of Caesarea (260-339), who was a strong advisor to Constantine, and wrote the ten books of “Church History”. I strongly recommend a book written by Dr. Paul L. Maier - “Eusebius - The Church History”. It is one of the better summaries that I have read regarding Constantine’s development of the early Church.
I’m sure that’s purely coincidental.

“However, what they mean is that since Christ has come and has fulfilled everything, He now is Israel“
God declared the chosen people. He has never updated this. Therefore it remains in force.
What is a Jew? A Jew keeps the Torah. What is the Torah? It is the connection between Heaven and earth. It describes God and foretells the coming of the Messiah Time begins when the Word of God is upon the earth and known by men.The Jews transmit the Torah, utterly intact through Time. To me this is an important enough function to make the Jews “Chosen”. Kill the Jews and you kill the Torah. Kill the Torah and you kill God- including His foretold Messiah:
The arrogance of “replacement” theologians to believe up to 40% of God’s promises pertain to their little church!
Correct.
I will note that the name Barabbas is “bar abbas” or “son of the father” namely that the other guy was a pretender Messiah, most likely a leader of a group planning to recreate the physical kingdom of Israel.
Quite a contrast between Jesus the Messiah and Jesus barabbas, the former with a kingdom not of this world and the latter looking to set up an earthly kingdom
“Israel was restored as a people and a nation in 1948.”
That’s false, the people of Israel and the nation of Israel continued on for 2000 years of dispersal.
Well put angelino. As paul wrote in galatians 3
d] 9 So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.
14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus
28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Thanks very much for posting this.
God declared the chosen people. He has never updated this. Therefore it remains in force.
Mal 1:2 “I have always loved you,” says the LORD. But you retort, “Really? How have You loved us?” And the LORD replies, “This is how I showed My love for you: I loved your ancestor Jacob,
Mal 1:3 but I rejected his brother, Esau,....................
To be chosen by God is no easy thing.
1) Can’t you just hear the retort above. “Go choose someone else, go love someone else , this is too hard.”
2) God chose Isreal for a purpose. It is good to reflect on what that purpose was....................
2) God chose Israel for a purpose. It is good to reflect on what that purpose was....................
God CHOOSES Israel for a purpose. It is good to reflect on what that purpose IS.
Mostly for my benefit. The Lord the God is a living God. He is still at work.
He is risen indeed!!

Last warning!
That little church is the bride of God himself.
I disagree with much of the premise of this article. The most important error I see is that Israel is the descendants of Jacob. That includes the twelve sons of Jacob and the two sons of Joseph who received blessings at the hand of Israel (Jacob) just as Israel’s (Jacob’s) sons. So while there are the 12 tribes of Israel there are really 14 when you include Ephraim and Manasseh but then you you have to subtract the name of Joseph giving you only thirteen.
I know of no Christian denomination that says they are Israel. I know of denominations that claim to be part of the lost tribes of Israel, Indeed the Mormons do not claim to be Israel but just like most protestants claim to be part of the missing tribes of Israel.
The state of Israel makes the claim to be only one of the tribes of Israel, Judah in particular. Therefore the state of Israel and family of Israel are two entirely different things. The State of Israel just as in the time of Christ represents only 2 of the tribes of Israel, again Judah and also Levi. In Jesus’ time the Northern Kingdom of Israel had already been scattered.
Abraham blessed his son with the blessing God gave him, we call this the Abrahamic Covenant even today and say that the world is populated by the descendants of Israel. Indeed The Lord told Abraham through his seed the world would be blessed. King David was a descendant of Abraham as was The Savior, The lord Jesus Christ through His mother Mary. Therefore the world is saved through the seed of Abraham in that Jesus is a descendant of Abraham. Which tribe would Jesus have been a member of? Well since there were only two tribes left in Israel at the time of Jesus He had to be of Judah or Levi. We aren’t really told His tribal identity but we are given hints. He had a cousin, John whose father was a priest of the temple which means that Zachariah was a Levite. That means that while Mary was a daughter of David there was the blood of Levi in her family too. So was Jesus a Levite or a Jew? I think a good argument could be made for both. Tradition however has called Him a Jew, or descendant of the tribe of Judah.
I think that anyone in the world who calls themselves part of Israel is likely correct since The Lord told Abraham that his seed would be as the stars in the sky or grains of sand on the beaches.
Today we have a state made up mostly of the tribe of Judah who call themselves Israel. They do not claim to be all that is left of the tribes of Jacob they indeed claim to be Judah for the most part just as in the days of The Savior.
Now for the real meat of the thesis, who are the chosen of God today, who are God’s people?
I think there are two different concepts here. First, the Lord gave the example of the shepherds putting their sheep in an enclosure for safety at night and then the next day calling them out. There were more than one herd in the enclosure but when the shepherd called his sheep in the morning only those that were his followed his voice. He was referring to His sheep in the parable, those who have accepted Jesus Christ as The Son of God, The Savior of the World. We know His voice and follow it and are His. That fact does not change the fact that the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are His chosen people. Again, we have two classifications here, the people of God and God’s people or God’s chosen. Those descended from Abraham are God’s chosen people, not just Judah but all the tribes. According to the New Testament if we Follow Christ and are not descended from Abraham then we are adopted into the family of Abraham as part of the family of Christ’s followers.
Christ Lives.
As to the Jews. Jesus was a Jew, and as a Christian I say: you can’t love the Tree (Jesus) and hate the Root (Jews). God called His people (Israel) “stiff necked” (Exodus 32:9), but He never quit loving them. I also believe Genesis 12:3 in still in effect, men have tried to erase it, but God has not.
