The leadership team at the International House of Prayer has released a formal statement about the clergy sex abuse allegations against founder/ prophet Mike Bickle, saying that he’s been suspended from their platform and may not preach, teach, be active on social media, or attend their 24/7 prayer room while a third party investigates these matters.
“We are heartbroken to report that we recently became aware of serious allegations, including sexual immorality, directed against Mike Bickle, the founder of IHOPKC. Our leadership team takes these allegations seriously and we are working for truth, light, redemption and justice. We are working with third parties to evaluate and arbitrate these allegations.
Our priority is to love and serve our IHOPKC community during this time. This news is upsetting to our spiritual family as well as our entire leadership team. Please pray for everyone involved, including those who have spoken out, those who have experienced trauma, and the Bickle family.
We ask for your patience as we work through this complex and very difficult situation. Second, we ask that our spiritual family refrain from using prophetic spiritual language that could be interpreted as a rejection of the pain of the traumatized.
On October 26, the IHOPKC Executive Leadership Team asked Mike Bickle and he agreed not to preach or teach on the IHOPKC platform, attend our 24-hour prayer room, or interact with its social media channels while we work with others to assess this situation.
As difficult as this may be for many, we trust in the good and wise leadership of Jesus to help and strengthen us as we anchor our hope in Him.”
Bickle has been accused of longstanding sexual abuse and predation by former senior leaders of the organization, citing “credible,” “longstanding,” and “serious allegations spanning several decades” that are “not based on any one experience or any one victim, but on the collective and corroborating testimony of the experiences of several victims.”
Bickle, closely associated with the New Apostolic Reformation and the Latter Rain Movement, founded IHOPKC in 1999, where prayer intercessors and musicians have been worshiping and praying 24/7 for nearly 15 years. The group and ministry ethos has a focus on apostles, prophecies, tongue speaking, visions, dreams, signs, and wonders, with the rotating teams frequently whipping up folks into an ecstatic state with repetitive, droning songs that can last for hours. Along with IHOPKC, Bickle founded the International House of Prayer University, which includes full-time ministry, music, and media schools and boasts over 2000 students, staff members, missionaries, and volunteers.
I thought this was an article about International House of Pancakes Kansas City. Oops.
I have never heard of these people either but it’s making all the Christian news blogs so I thought I should post it. Sounds like it’s a big dead who ever they are.
“Prophet”.
IF someone (or their sycophants) is calling themselves this -run.
Much good fruoit has come from this ministry. If these reports are true, it is extremely sad.
Right you are. The two huge red flags are “prophet” and “plant your seed”.
The second one is quite common.
As in, “Plant your seed (send us money) and it will be returned to you ten-fold.”
IIRC, ‘the elders’, re 2 Tim, are SUPPOSED TO HAVE A WALL TO WALL COUNSELING WITH THE BOY, FIRST.
At least (unlike certain other cases) the IHOP community is suspending him and investigating this matter publicly instead of sweeping it under the rug and reassigning him.
I actually think this reflects (relatively) good on their organization (compared to others).
(prophet)
There’s the problem right there.
There are few, if any these days.
The Lord may give certain people a Word of Knowledge. I’ve had it happen several times; over decades.
But I would never declare myself to be a prophet. Only the Lord can call someone to that.
Further, I’ve watched a few of his videos on the end times. Completely wrong.
Saw one of his churches. Yes completely packed.
Yes there’s a couple of things about them.
Bingo!
Can’t tell from these articles whether this was consensual adultery or actual sexual abuse. Either would disqualify him but they are two different things.
The self-declared “prophets” are being revealed. Run, run, run from places like these. They are nothing but ear-tickling soothsayers.
Mike Bickle, meet Travis Bickle.
I attended Ihop’s end of the year gatherings 3 times, and GOD’s presence was there in power. And, as I said, much fruit has come from it. I’m glad they are investigating these charges in a biblical that Mike has stepped down while they do so. If they are true it is a tragedy.
Yes, it is like people calling themselves Apostles.
He didn't see this one comin'?
See my tagline and know that the context about what to test and hold true to is about what we're supposed to believe and count as accurate teachings and prophesies. (I apply it to worldly teaching as well.)
1st Thessalonians 5:19-22 AMP -- 19 Do not quench [subdue, or be unresponsive to the working and guidance of] the [Holy] Spirit. 20 Do not scorn or reject gifts of prophecy or prophecies [spoken revelations—words of instruction or exhortation or warning]. 21 But test all things carefully [so you can recognize what is good]. Hold firmly to that which is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil [withdraw and keep away from it].
If one didn’t know better they might assume that organized religion is a giant protection racket for organized buggery.
Perhaps that’s a bit cynical, but there does seem to be a lot of that behavior in the clerical field.
Nah... gotta be my imagination...
So sad.
