Purim and Yom Kippur appear to be complete opposites but the ancient rabbis say they are really two sides of the same coin.

The ancient rabbis noted that Purim and Yom Kippur are the only holidays about which scripture states that they will be celebrated forever:

All of the holidays are to be nullified in the future but the days of Purim will not be nullified, as it is stated: “And these days of Purim will not be rescinded from the Jews.” (Esther 9:28)

Rabbi Elazar said: Also Yom Kippur will forever not be nullified, as it is stated, “And it will be to you for an everlasting statute to atone for the Children of Israel from all of their sins once a year.” (Leviticus 16:34)

I’m making Hamantaschen with blackberry and apricot filling tonight and tomorrow we’ll observe Purim.

We’re Christian but we also observe Purim, Yom Kippur, and Hannukah. We also keep a mezuza on our doorposts.

Decades ago I was in Jerusalem during Purim. I heard there was a service at the university so I decided to check it out. This was before 9/11 and before the intifada and there was no security or anything. I just walked onto campus. Well the campus was completely empty. I didn’t see anyone. But they had some signs indicating where the campus synagogue was. So I followed the signs, walked down various empty hallways. It was spooky empty and quiet and I thought maybe I was wrong and everyone went home for Purim. Finally I found the big doors to enter the synagogue. When I opened the doors is was a raucous scene. I couldn’t believe it. They were doing the service. They had a couple actors playing out the scenes. There were two balconies and the main floor and all the congregants were booing and cheering, they had silly string and noisemakers and nerf footballs and water guns and every time the rabbi said the name Haman the whole crowd went wild shooting their silly string and banging the chairs and shooting water and booing and rattling their noisemakers. Whenever he said Esther they cheered and clapped and threw the football around. It was crazy. Especially my experience I had spent 15-20 minutes in near total solitude and silence walking around trying to find this place and then boom! I walked in and 100s of people was in this room making a loud scene. I found it hysterical and entertaining. Never saw anything like it.

After the service everyone went outside and passed around bottles of liquor.

So yeah, that scene was the exact opposite of somber Yom Kippur.

The 40 days concluded on the 17th of the Hebrew month of Tammuz. When Moses descended with the Tablets, he was met with the sight of the Jews worshipping the golden calf. Horrified, he threw the Tablets to the ground, shattering them instantly.

Moses then ascended Mount Sinai once more to intercede on behalf of the sinners. G‑d heeded his requests and forgave the Jews, and 80 days later, on Yom Kippur, Moses descended once more with a second set of Tablets.

= 153 + 502 = 655, the address of the finish line (ן) of "the world's oldest annual marathon" [מרתון] -- the crossing 'gate' of the fallen, chafed, rubbed raw, and exhausted.

(He will be sitting amongst the poor people who are enduring pain and suffering.)

The finish line is located along with the library (address 700).

(Its final form represents 700 but this is rarely used.)

Who Knows 50? The distinguished number of transcendence.

Next up -- the 128th running, scheduled for tax day, April 15th, 1/7. (EST 2023-2024 was 128 days versus 127 on account of the... leap year.)

That happened to me as well. It was a weird trip. I had sort of grabbed some flight and ended up in Israel, not really knowing what was going on at the time.

Then there were all these kids in costumes, and parades and excitement everywhere I turned.

I realized decades later that it's been a living parable ever since.

Certain numbers have many different significances. Like 40, it is a real literal number but it is also a metaphorical number meaning “a lot” or expressed as “a long time” and it is also often associated with trials and tribulations. 40 years Moses lived in Egypt, then 40 years wandering in the desert fleeing to Israel, and the 40 days and nights of rain for Noah. And of course as you said Moses spent 40 days in the mountain.

6 is a perfect number. It took 6 days for creation. I’d be interested in perfect numbers in the bible.

Ah, and here we are. This morning I simply followed your perfect number trail sign and it's "prizes for playing" as I like to say:

"The first perfect numbers are 6, 28, 496, 8128, 33550336, 8589869056, 137438691328." (LINK)

28 is aka power [כח, ko'ach, 20 + 8] which has popped up all over the place in my FR posts over time. For example, regarding the place of first light on CONUS (being along the border "wall") which is coming up very soon. The next sunrise switch-off occurs ~ 51 min after the deep penumbral eclipse finishes up over there, on Shushan Purim. It was also literally the place of First Wind in action... 🤔

"First Wind installed 28 General Electric 1.5 megawatt turbines along the top and northern sections of the mountain."

If you check the sat imagery, from the view facing east toward the mountain, the *power* turbines are divided R to L as 20 (כ) and 8 (ח), spelling כח via the road access.

Yeah, just a coincidence... like how on the topo maps, MarsHill sticks out by itself like a sore thumb, looking like a mighty mitochondrion aka the "powerhouse of the cell".

Even Biology 101 tells the tale, but then as perceptions go -- I'm some kind of kook for even noticing a fraction of this stuff. That's really the story of my life. I always find the best stuff though. Folks are really missing out on the Divine Orchestration in all things created. I'm a 🪭... big fan of the Designer. So much to love!

BTW the Hill is also a cartouche (cf. what I said previously about an iceberg). The midrash will tell you that Osnat had a special piece of jewelry such as a pendant or locket that tipped off Joseph to her true identity as the [grand] daughter of Ya'akov. It's the simple meaning, even on account of her coming from Egypt, from On (Heliopolis, Sun City) versus Off.

At that place of first light, you can see that it is the location of the Big Rock -- address 37 Graves. It's a place where those who go there in order to ascended and descend the mount, maneuver on two sticks together while holding two sticks. Again with the simple meaning. 🎿🎿

And it's not like there's anything else up there aside from the wind turbines and the transmitter tower for BIG Country, marking the longest lifespan in the Bible ahead of the Flood.

"An Eclipse Never Comes Alone", and the center of the total solar eclipse (river of darkness) rolls right over the place on April 8th. The eclipse map even marks the banks of that river for its levels of saturation, inundation.

Which all gets me to the next perfect number, 496. A Big Country, or as The Band indicated before rolling with Rawhide, "A.. good country key", because

"מלכות" is a dominant feature of the Megillah. Appears 26 times, 6 of those in the individual word מלכותו, which = 502.

Go figure. Add another 3 to the 26, if counting letter strings between words (EST 5:13-14, 8:3, 8:4-5).

And then can you believe it, I had just mentioned 496 on this short post from the 18th, for a whole other reason entirely (but apparently not). Yet it's so interconnected to this theme and the theme of Purim secrets, that I'll repost the numeric part:

At the end he notes that leviathan = 496 = malchut, which reminded me of the sod you mentioned because

the internal letters of sod spell מלכות, malchut:

סמך וו דלת

Of course, someone might quibble about the spelling of the letter vav, as it could also be spelled with an alef or yud inside. וו seems to be the common default as far as assorted Bible/gematria programs go, so I stick with that one. Two sticks? 🧐

The detail in the video at that post is that he showed the caduceus as the healing symbol (the double serpent around the winged pole) not the rod of Asclepius. The former is the symbol for Hermes/Mercury, the speedy messenger god. Not unrelated though.

As long as I'm at it, I'll link to the "Kinnor Hamashiach" national instrument of the Jewish People, sitting in that isolated case waiting for the emergency (In case of emergency break glass) -- in the museum named after a man named Elias, who had a huge "cabinet of curiosities" that was in need of a home.

The Messiah didn't arrive until 1940 though, bequeathed by the W.E. Hill family for preservation as "a yardstick for future violin makers to learn from".

The Messiah is finely crafted in every detail, such as:

• the hidden star located in the center of the scroll
• the star in the scroll's center is found on the side of the tuning pegs for stings G - D (two pegs: וו, because it's always something, like how every verse of the Megillah begins with a vav save for 8)
