I would say one of the biggest faults in public schools is the tendency not to teach the students to "look it up".

They are taught to parrot back what is in the book. It is assumed that the book is the fount of all wisdom and will never be challenged or changed.

In religious schools the teachers know what they teach is going to be challenged and so they teach point and counterpoint and make sure the students know how to look things up.

The study found that receiving a private, faith-based education increased political tolerance and knowledge by 12 percent of a standard deviation.

I trust that the study did not fail to control for such other factors as race.

I namely suspect that the racial make-up of faith-based educational institutions is radically different from that of public schools.

Interesting article. Explains a lot about the outrageous behavior.

I went to Catholic grade school fora few years, Catholic high for jr and sr years and two years of college. As I recall, we had to take a class called Social Justice in college, Priest who taught it looked down on capitalists. I wondered who he thought was paying his salary and keeping the heat on.
