I can’t believe how empty the Church was where I attended Mass yesterday on Pentecost. Before Covid the U.S. Bishops conducted a survey and said that 24% of Catholics attend weekly Mass, down from about 75% in 1965. After Covid they did another survey and we appear to have lost another fifth, down to 19%. Some say they think it’s closer to 10%. Germany is in the single digits, Italy is down to 10%. Our churches are emptying, a number of old churches are closing, clustering is going on, our emptying Catholic schools are telling people outside the faith they have openings. In the midst of this slow death, it’s the conservatives who have a “suicidal” impulse?! It’s those who basically say, “Something is dreadfully wrong, we need to call the people to repentance and reform”, who are the problem?! In the mist of all this we get an obsession with “Climate change” and Synods where poorly formed/uncatechized, brattish Catholics scream and demand the natural law be changed by the Church to accommodate their sins. Many of the faithful live like the heather world around them. The Servant of God Father John Hardon (1914-2000) said the embrace of contraception is always fatal to the practice of the Faith. When people who live like pagans abandon the Faith they prove some words of Jesus:
“Everyone who does evil hates the light and does not come into the light for fear that his evil deeds will be exposed.” -John 3:20
The second worst country in the world for the persecution of the Catholic Church is Nigeria, behind North Korea. Mass attendance there is 94% though the faithful are in danger. In pictures of them you see packed churches and women in white veils.
Someone needs to tell Francis that he is earning a ticket to hell, one-way with no return trip available, ever.
