A Heads Up for Christians

Christians, this is a heads up about the defacing of Gideon Bibles by a group called The Freedom From Religion Foundation. They are gluing a label inside of Gideon Bibles in motels across the country. The labels attack the Bible and it's words. They have a web site if you are interested and have a strong stomach.

I learned of this at a Gideon dinner this evening and came home to check out the people doing this. They are atheists and humanists who support abortion and all those so-called progressive ideas. After seeing one of the Bibles with the label in it tonight, I decided to ask all Christian Freepers to make a point of checking out the Gideon Bible if you find one in a motel room. If it has one of these labels the Gideons ask that we notify them and they will replace the Bibles.

I looked around the net and from what I found the people who are responsible for this seem to be under the impression that those Bibles are FREE. The Bible's are free to those they are being distributed to, but it does cost SOMEONE to have them printed, binded, shipped, etc. I suppose it never crossed their tiny brains that other people invested their time and money into having those Bible's printed and distributed.

People like that live by a double standard. They demand respect from everyone and refuse to show it to anyone.

Thanks for this news. Although not very encouraging it gives us an opportunity to keep the Bibles in rooms in motels.

I thought this might be an "Urban Legend," but I could not find it on "Snopes" or on "urbanlegends.about.com"

If you search Gideon Bibles defaced or something to that effect, you will find several websites which include the idea's for the stickers, actual stickers and stories where people are bragging about defacing the Bible.

Sorry I'm so late getting back to this. Had a funeral today. No, it's not an urban legend. I saw the Bible with the sticker in it that the speaker brought with him last night. I asked him to let me see it so I could see who was doing it. I got the name of the group and came home and looked them up. What I found was sickening. I felt that we needed to be put on notice to check the Bibles whenever we come across one. When they are notified about them, the Gideons replace them.

You are right. The Bibles are bought by volunteer contributions and they cost $5 each. Let's just keep our eyes open and counter this when we can.
