Yes, parents arrange marriages for their children with children of their friends. I think parents do quite a bit of networking for years keeping up relationships with people they know with their own childrens' future mates in mind. My daughter married into a family that is originally from Pakistan. Those parents are still arranging for marriages for some of their kids (obviously NOT for my son-in-law, though).

What is really arresting to me is the lack of women out in public in Pakistan and much more so in Afghanistan. I know women have to stay home in Afghanistan unless a male relative takes them out, but it sure makes the streets look strange with only men there.

Can you imagine how embarrassing it must be for a prospective groom to tell his folks, "Remember, Mom & Dad, I want BIG hooters."
