"Over the summer I thought that I would seek out non-Americans as friends, just for diversity's sake.

What exactly does this mean? Why do the need to fit the D word as many times as possible into their daily discourse?

It reminds me of when I was in sixth grade and every other word coming out of my classmates mouths was 'mature'. It was thought to be the be-all-and-end-all of existence. This new generation of sixth-graders has simply substituted 'diversity' for 'maturity'.

Because some other liberal told them it was grand and important and they never bothered to question it logically. If they did, they would of course discover that logically there is nothing inherently good about diversity. If we'd focus less on such nonsense and more on all pulling together as NON-hyphenated Americans, we'd be wayyyyyy better off.
