Over Thanksgiving, I went antiquing.

In this one shop, I sat in an old easy chair, and noticed on the end table some old magazines. I picked up one and read it.

It was the post-election special edition of Newsweek, from 1976.

Boy, have we conservatives come a long way since then. We were the minority of the Republican party, and the Republican party was hopelessly (so it seemed) in the minority in Congress.

There was an article listing who might be a contender for the Republican nomination in 1980. The first one listed was Reagan, with the following being the entirety of the comments on him: "Only the most hard core of believers thinks the aging Reagan will be a factor in 1980." All the rest were typical NorthEast liberal Republicans.

Now, we are the majority within the Republican party (even if we are still frustrated by the "moderate" aka liberal Republicans), we control the House and are at near-parity in the Senate, and we have a conservative in the White House.

We have made tremendous progress, and Free Republic is helping keep the momentum going, even through the setbacks.

God bless Free Republic.

My life is about to change radically in the coming months as I will start to walk the walk of American Entrepreneurship that I have advocated over the years.

It would be moribund without Reagan's tax cuts in the 1980s.

FR rules!
