Chile's transvestites say the country's general election discriminates against them.
Cross-dressers say they are humiliated at having to stand in the men's queue at segregated polling booths.
And transvestites claim polling station officials often won't let them vote because they look different to the photo on their ID card.
They say they are told to wipe off their make-up and take off jewellery so their appearance can be checked at the male voter's booths.
Voting is obligatory in Chile but only on production of a national identity card.
One transvestite said her blonde hair and curves attract plenty of attention in the queues for the male booths.
"The officials are always telling me, 'You're in the wrong queue, miss. You should be in the ladies' queue.' When I tell them the truth, they hardly ever believe me," Silvia Moraga said.
"We are all agreed that elections are a nightmare for transvestites," she added. "It's time the whole system was reformed."
The Association of Transgender Persons, Traves Chile says the whole process is discriminatory and humiliating for the nation's transvestites.
They are demanding an end to the segregation of men and women in polling stations.

If you have a pole, this que is for you.
Her? The writer appears to be a bit confused....
Polling official (L) confronts Cousin Itt.
"We are all agreed that elections are a nightmare for transvestites," she added. "It's time the whole system was reformed."
Uh...'nuff said.
Pole check
And as to media bias, how many Chilean transvestites are there for Pete's sake?
It will probably start in New England or California and we'll jump through hoops not wanting to offend mentally deranged people who are so far out that they mutilate their bodies.
Note the liberal inconsistancy: it is natural for a person to undergo surgery etc. if he was born in a body of the wrong gender, but a fairy can not become a non-fairy because, well, once a tinkerbell, always a tinkerbell.
