Dont get me wrong when I say this, I am a pro-life person. However this is such a non issue even if roe v wade is overturned. Unless the american people and most important the residents of the state of California have a change of heart (which we should at every opportunity try to change hearts on the subject, abortion is here to stay.

I am a huge Simon supporter, but there are more issues just as important that I want to focus my energies on.

I agree. Bill Simon should not shrink from this like a wuss, but just state, "Yes, I am prolife, I am a Catholic. I have the right to believe what I want, and you guys can just shut up!" He'd win the Catholic and Hispanic vote hands-down. Voters want to see someone who cannot be intimidated by the likes of Kate Michelman and her ilk. They figure if he can stand up to her, he'll stand up to a lot of other things, too.

Witness how Rumsfield stands up to the press and earns the respect of the people, even as he doesn't answer all their questions. Simon should do the same. What does he have to lose? The press is already writing his election obituary. "Pro-choicers" may not agree with him, but there are enough people who are on the fence about the issue and who may just vote for him anyway. If he passes on this, he'll just look like that wussy, Trent Lott.
