Is "Renewing the California Dream" Simon's theme? As a person who is actively working on 2 campaings, I can't tell you how catchy and awesome that it is.

In the 2000 election Ashcroft ran on a theme called "Missouri Values" which was highly popular here in the midwest and the state where he had a 10% lead before Mel Carnahan died. Literally every candidate in the state has copied/cannibalized this motto from Congressmen down to the local mayors. Hell, even people across state lines have copied it like "Kansas Values".

What does it mean? I live in New Jersey and remember Pete Dawkins, the Republican Golden Boy, who ran for the Senate about 20 years ago. The Democrats creamed him with a clip of him saying how much he loved "our beautiful Garden State." At what point do the voters see this stuff as pandering, corny and shallow?
