His first two years in office, Gov. Gray Davis was the luckiest of politicians. A robust economy fueled an explosion in state tax revenues. School reforms implemented by his predecessor triggered a rise in test scores. And crime rates continued their long decline from historic highs.

I do some consulting work regarding a small electric vehicle for an auto manufacturer. At the recent Ontario Auto Show, all the lights in the building suddenly went out. In the dark, I yelled "Thank you, Gray Davis." It received a rousing response.

I read about the crime rate increase either yesterday or the day before. Lockyer's response? "We need to do more to get guns out of the hands of criminals." How ya gonna do that, Mr. Lockyer? All the gun control we have in California, and the crime rate is going up? Do you think there is a connection? Oh, I know, not enough gun control. And Grayout Davis, the Prince of Darkness, is proud for having signed these "gun safety" bills. What a jerk.

And crime rates continued their long decline from historic highs.

The decline in crime in the 90's was largely related to demographics. There were relatively fewer people in the prime crime-committing age bracket for about a decade. Those numbers are going back up as the baby-boomers' children reach their twenties. Watch for crime to increase just about everywhere.

Don't worry, the Republican Party won't have a clue about how to exploit this obvious issue. So far I haven't heard a peep out of them about the ridiculous Bill Lockyer, who is quite simply the worst Attorney General in California history.

After 9/11, what did Lockyer do? He sent teams of highway patrol out to arrest "suspected white supremacists" lest they molest people who hail from Islamic countries. When it was revealed that said Islamic folks had actually been conducting fundraising operations right under his nose, and had a little terrorist training camp in the Sierra foothills, what did he do? Nothing.

Lockyer spends all his time on hate crime hype and affirmative action. He's race obsessed. The increases in crime are due to ethnic gangs running free in Los Angeles and the Central Valley and have NOTHING to do with baby boomers kids coming of age. Want proof? Go to LAPD.com and look at the gang statistics.

Maybe someone will pillory Davis with this, but the problem is in the AG's office. And the Republic Party is utterly clueless about using it as an issue.

Davis has bragged about appointing 160 (I believe) new judges who are pro abortion and probably pro criminal.

Also, most of this crime increase is probably commited by gangs, who are protected by the politically correct Davis and AG. Of course that means that the crimes are committed in brown, black and asian neighborhoods, and those communities are the ones who suffer.

This should be a big campaign issue for Simon.

The governor's staff had little to say about the numbers Tuesday, a day after the report was made public. Davis spokesman Steven Maviglio speculated that the increase was one of the "first effects of the recession." His contention that crime "naturally increases" in bad times, however, is less than precise and, even if it were, it's not exactly comforting.

"We will continue to be vigilant," Maviglio said. "The governor has said repeatedly that public safety is not going to take a hit in the budget. That's one area he's not going to renege on his commitment."

On the first point: if bad times contribute to an increase in crime, then Davis IS culpable because he's done nothing to help the economy, and everything to kill it.

On the second point, what commitment IS he going to renege on?

From the article: "Another swing area, the Inland Empire east of Los Angeles, also had big increases, while the state's two most reliably liberal cities -- San Francisco and Los Angeles -- saw the number of crimes decrease or increase only modestly."

Since the article provides percentage changes but fails to give the crime rates, one might get the impression that living in LA or SF is safer than living in the central valley of Kalifornia.

Perhaps someone can provide the actual rates?

Definitely. This one would resonate with the sheeple, especially with "former criminal prosecutor" Bill Simon saying it. Also, bring Rudy back for these ads: "In the X years where Bill Simon stood with be prosecuting crime...." Add some police endorsements and Grayout will be on his heals on this issue too...
