Didn't they practice human sacrifice?

I don't believe they actually did human sacrifice. They did, however, believe in telling the future (auguries) by watching the death throes of people dying in agony. To this end, they would take prisoners or slaves, hang them upright and burn them alive. The hanging skeleton often displayed during Halloween commemorates this pracitice (although most folks have no idea about the connection). I don't believe that technically qualifies as a sacrifice.

Yes, nothing like bringing back human and animal sacrifes to bring honor and dignity to the governor's madison!
