The media seek to wring out of Simon a pledge to protect abortion, never mind that that decision is beyond his reach. Would that they showed the same level of attention to the no-new-taxes pledge.

Perfect!

Jesse Jackson is no mere "huckster" --- he is an adulterous, racial blackmailer.

What's really scary is that the latest field poll on issues important to Californians appears to show that on these issues they don't seem to be all that excited. The issues that are of top concern them are, in order of importance: education, state economy and public safety. So, we need to be pointing out that to the extent Davis takes us down the path toward reparations, he will be taking resources away from educaiton, crippling the state economy (why would any business come to or stay in a state with that added cost?) and contributing to the public safety issue (as the reparee's turn to crime after they have partied with the payoff money).

But the media never bother to inform them that Davis's support for abortion is far more liberal than theirs, even covering the partial-birth abortions Californians abhor.

Great article but it left out Davis's extremist idelogical support for the state government recognition for homosexual civic unions. This guy has really been pandering to his hard-core leftist base. Obviously, his internal polls must be showing that the support of his liberal base is quite low. Otherwise, I do not know why he would choose to commit political hari-kari by pushing such an extreme-left social agenda at a time when he should be running to the center to edge out his more popular opponent, center right gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon.

If Simon can wipe the moderate gloss off Davis's policies...

Simon can't do that by himself, because the gloss is being heavily applied and reapplied by the state's major media outlets. Simon has to draw blood somewhere and make it stick, like a secret videotape of Davis screaming at a female staff member (as he frequently does) or of Davis losing it in a meeting. California elections are all about personality in these times - and Simon has to somehow show Davis to be the raving lunatic that he is, or that media gloss will save the day for Davis in November.

He wants, for example, in-state illegal aliens to pay $10,000 less a year in tuition at University of California schools than out-of-state Americans, provided that the illegal aliens promise to observe the law in the future.

So does "Republican" Governor George Pataki of New York.
