Very smart; he'll get beat up by the usual suspects but the overwhelming majority of voters do not support reparations.

Note to Governor Davis: Slavery was NEVER legal in California (Unless you count today's taxpayers).

create economic opportunities and hope in our blighted urban areas so that those whose lives are in despair can know the benefits of a good job, quality schools, and a reliable income.

But...but...Davis knows if he does that, they'll no longer be dependant on the Democrats. They'll be able to make it on their own. They'll become ....*gasp*....Republicans!!

Gray Davis has become a liability - what I see this as, is that Davis is being used by the left-wing of the democratic party the same way a coal mine uses a canary - see what the reception is amongst the california electorate before deciding whether to make reparations a national campaign issue or not... if he dies politically, they'll put it on hold, pushing behind the scenes for a while longer, then try again with another useful idiot...

Simon is not a bad guy, but he needs a bettwe PR writer:

Governor Davis recently fanned the flames of divisiveness when he said, 'Clearly, we want to right any wrongs and do justice to people who were taken advantage of.'

That's going to come back up like the gyro I had for lunch today.

Davis must figure he can't lose, he's probably the first rat to come out in support of reparations right before facing the voters.

He just screwed up real bad.

Simon should not stop talking about this until election day.

It is the issue that destroys the Democratic Party.

All right, Simon!!! Right on, Brother! I am even more proud to have your bumpersticker on my car!! The following bears repeating and highlighting:

"Bringing up the wounds of our country's past in a politically motivated attempt to shore up his political standing today is typical of Governor Davis, who offers only politics, and no solutions.

"Americans feel pain for what happened over 150 years ago, but we cannot right the wrongs of history by handing out money generations later. Imagine if we were to even try. History is littered with injustices committed against countless groups of people - and where are we to draw the line? It has been a trademark of our country to let go of the past and build for a better future.

"Forcing insurance companies to pay money to organizations favored by Jesse Jackson - in the hope it yields votes for the politically obsessed Governor in November - is a shallow game that does nothing to advance the interests of those who are the descendants of slaves.

Can't Davis do anything FOR California? Why the hell is his head into race relationships, the civil war, abortion issues, etc.?

Simple answer: HE KNOW's HE's GOING TO LOOSE 'CAUSE HE's AN EMPTY SUIT WHO BANKRUPTED THE STATE!!

Simon's a republican. He should have offered them a tax credit instead. :)

Two young men (19 and 20) in my family died in the Civil War fighting to set the slaves free. I ought to get death benefits plus interest for 140 years. :>)

Very eloquent and principled response. Best of luck out there. I hope you can get rid of Davis before he drives all industry and commerce out of your State.

Please, please, do not take me off your ping list. I have major holdings in CA, and Davis would not know a profit unless it was political buyout.

Simon should suggest that we all get reparations. It will be called "tax refunds."

Reparations are the answer.

However the question is: "What is the latest stupid idea Gray-out Davis has announced?"
