The "California Teachers Poll" that showed Simon ahead of Davis was not a poll OF teachers, but a poll PAID FOR my teachers. The stongest ally that Grayout Davis has, the strongest ally that any fire-breathing leftist Democrat in the country has, is the teachers unions. The unions know that left-Democrats will protect them from three evils: 1) requiring them to know how to read and write, 2) finding out whether their students can actually read and write, and 3) earning the salaries they are paid, much less the increases they demand for doing poorer and poorer work.
The purpose of the poll was not to find out what most California teachers think. It was to find out how much they have their work cut out for them in trying to sell this bill of goods (Davis) to the California voters, one more time.
