If you go on vacation, leave your back door unlocked and put up a sign that says ``No one's home,'' you should not be surprised when other folks take advantage of your stupidity and rob you blind. Unhappy, yes, but not surprised.

I was walking around the Capitol today and lo and behold there was Gov "Gay" Davis making a speech to a bunch of out-of-touch seniors. To hear Gay's side of the story, he did nothing wrong (re. energy). It was the feds and everyone else, but oh no not him. I looked around at the morons there and noticed that they were worshipping their gay god, applauding everything gay had to say. It was sickening beyond belief. P.S. The AARP stinks to high heaven.

The virtuoso finger-pointing among California politicians is a race from truth.

Gov. Gray Davis, who was stampeded into ill-advised, massively expensive power purchases during the crisis, is one of the most ardent deflectors of blame. He shouldn't get away with this revisionism.

Nope, he shouldn't.

Dump Davis!

OMG!! It's working! Davis is going to slime his way out of this one! The excrement media clymers are covering his deeds! Sorry to say this, BUT Davis will most likely be re-eLICKed. Where is simmons?? He needs to get his booty out in the front lines and raise HELL over this! His silence on the matter is deafening!

He has not been silent. But of course the media selectively reports!

An interesting article, but it leaves out an important point. Yes, California was asleep at the switch during the power crisis. However, when California figured out a problem they quickly focused on a single solution to their problem. That solution was to do everything the same, except ask the federal energy regulatory commission to step in and provide the state with refunds and to limit the amount of money people could charge for electricity.

What gets me mad is that the political leadership in California did nothing but express victimhood and try to say the problem was caused by Republicans. The political leadership of California took no swift nor meaningful steps to reduce the magnitude of the problem. It was only after they had exhaused many many victimhood pleadings that they started to take small steps to help themselves. Too little too late.

Real leaders lead. Democratic leaders beg and blame others!

Ultimately, the mess is a reminder to ourselves. Our energy gluttony plays into the hands of the manipulators. Think conservation. The energy we don't need to consume is our own weapon in this fight. Let's use it better.

Wait a minute. I thought that California used less energy "per capita" than anyone else? (Nevermind that that's because California has run off all heavy industry like steel mills, aircraft factories, furniture factories, automobile manufacturing, etc.)

The SJM wants Californians to sacrifice more? Sounds exactly like a Soviet 5-Year Plan: Sacrifice for the Children...

The state bears more than "some" blame in allowing itself to be "gouged". I'd say it bears the lion's share of blame. There's no way Enron and others could have manipulated the energy market in CA, if it weren't so easy and if the Davis Administration weren't so incompetent.
