CA GOP: Where Often Is Heard a Discouraging Word
GOP News & Views - email newsletter | 5-14-02 | Chuck Muth

"OK, so his 'approach' to electing Republicans has proved disastrous. OK, so he actually thinks he can build up the California Republican Party by shutting out volunteers and turning control over to a committee of out-of-touch country club fat cats. OK, so the same guy who insists he's working to 'build' and 'strengthen' the party compulsively tells any reporter who will listen that the party has an 'extremist image.'

But at least Gerry Parsky is trying, in his own misguided way, to help Republicans, right? Sort of.

"Recently - the week of April 10 to be more precise - a rich individual was at a Los Angeles social event asking other rich people to contribute money to Republicans for Davis (California's incumbent Democrat governor). That's right: Republicans for Davis.

"If you guessed that rich individual was Gerry Parsky, you'd be really, really close. It was actually his wife, Robin. The wife of the President's California consigliore and supposed savior of California Republicanism was actually soliciting funds to try and defeat the Republican nominee for governor (Bill Simon). That's like the Republican National Committee chairman's wife raising money for Republicans for Gore."

- GOPN&V reader Brian Todd

******************************* Moses of the CA GOP?

Republicans in California government, especially conservative ones, might as well be added to the Endangered Species List these days. But perhaps there' s new hope on the Left Coast horizon. Word on the street has it that Shannon Reeves, a fiery black Republican and unapologetic conservative, is mulling a run for the Golden State GOP's top job next year. No, not governor; state chairman.

I know Shannon Reeves. I'd like to think he's a friend of mine. And brother, Shannon's no wishy-washy, spineless, let's-make-a-deal RINO. He could be just what the doctor ordered to lead California back into the GOP column for the 2004 presidential election. Run, Shannon, run.

This really contradicts the 54% poll numbers that the Repubs are showing in California. There are sources saying that GW Bush could take California if there were an election tomorrow. I'm not claiming that that story is 100% accurate, but things may not be all that bleak either.

This thread will self destruct in 5, 4, 3, 2.....

Is Robin Parsky a Dem like Nancy Riordan?

I don't know who this Shannon Reeves is but I like what I'm hearing so far.

Yeah, I've been reading anything but doom and gloom for the Cali Repubs lately. Hmmm....

CA was screwed up long before the word Bush existed Cicero.

It will take an event that will hit all pocketbooks hard consistantly to get people away from voting for Dems.

You got that right. Nothing but checked-pants Southland FatCats running the show since "Duke" handed over the reigns to "sneaky" Pete.

That is ridiculous that the leadership of the Cal party is conflicted !

Let's holler for new leadership!

Shannon Reeves is the head (or used to be) of the NAACP chapter in Oakland. He was rather a high profile figure and got a lot of media appearances until the media found out he was a Republican. Since then, they've pretended he doesn't exist. He seems like a sharp enough guy.

The reality of the situation is worse than the article states. There is a BIG problem in the State GOP. Parsky is leaning on everybody. He hasn't a clue.

Thanks! Ironically, when I read this I started thinking about that guy but couldn't remember his name. I had no idea he was a Republican and they were one and the same person. This should get interesting!
