With his fund-raising practices under close Capitol scrutiny, Gov. Gray Davis recently announced he canceled a "couple" of fund- raising events "out of an excess of caution."

But the Democratic governor soon found he can't shake fund-raising questions that easily.

[Gary] South insists that "the governor does not sit there and go over every detail of every fund-raising event."

Another lie? These come so easily to Democrats nowadays.

I don't think so. Remember Clinton fatigue? The public will dislike anyone who reminds them of their dislike for Davis, nor will that distaste keep them from voting their interests. If Simon thinks he can rely upon Davis' unpopularity, he has a rude awakening coming. Unless he can demonstrate why conservative policies are in their interest, he will lose, and I don't see that message at all.

What I want to know is whether those fund raisers were cancelled by the governor to avoid sticky political questions, OR if they were cancelled by DONORS who don't want to be seen giving to the governor.

Makes a difference, you know...

Davis political adviser Garry South knows, but won't say. "I'm not going to tell you what the events were," said South. "The events are not going to occur, so it doesn't matter."

...could Gary South be the soft underbelly of he Very Grey Doofus ?

Davis is starting to feel the heat!

Putting a cramp in davis' fund-raising ability will help Simon. However, I'd bet
these shysters find a way to fill the campaign coffers without making it public.

If that is the case, then California is hopeless. You are probably right too.

I completely agree. There is no shortage of opportunities for Bill Simon to bring new constituencies into the conservative movement WITHOUT doing Karl Rove's appeasement dance. Environmentalists, parents of school-age children, the urban working poor, and forestry, agriculture, and construction trades are all conservative opportunities. My concern is that Simon's campaign consultants don't know how to go after these groups and won't upset the Party gravy train by dissing Mr. Rove's misbegotten plans.

How about another alternative, they were cancelled to prevent future tie ins with companies like Whoreacle. Maybe these companies and individuals have donated previously to Herr Davis and there is some more bad news seeping out about these connections.

Silly, lady, they found ways before he became governor, and those ways have been refined until they are very stealthy and efficient.

If he has raised over 30 million that is known, how much has been collected under the table and in dark alleys. How many companies have "loaned" them office space, data processing equipment and the personnel to do the technical stuff. How much has been laundered by the enviral whackos and the unions?

Good question nad I have no answer .

But perhaps the state media rags are getting in the mood for some old fashioned muckraking.

Well , lets hope so!

Right, Gramps. You outline the "tried and true" crooked ways they raise stealth money. I suggest
they'll need new scams. We need to be alert that their new fund-raising scams might trip them up.

Asked last week whether any of the canceled events had ties to the recently sticky subject of government and information technology, the typically hands-on Davis told reporters, "I don't even know what events were canceled."

Does he think we're going to believe that? I believe that like I believe Clinton didn't inhale.

Dump Davis, the most CORRUPT politician in California history.

...and I'm surprised that it's that high with the median at $400,000 but they say they will give a mortgage to someone even if his payment is 50% of his gross income!

They are doing just that - that's one of the reasons why we've had a resurgence of the real estate boom in California this spring. Hordes of buyers are being encouraged to buy houses beyond their means (household income $80K and < 5% down gets you a $500K house) and it has really squeezed the $400-$700K housing market, even as the bottom is dropping out of the $1M+ market.

It is a manufactured boom, and there are going to be a lot of foreclosures in the next couple of years when it all falls apart.
