The issue of this race will not be environment(though Davis will make a big deal of his efforts to ban offshore drilling.) It will be fiscal responsibility.

Posted this because it had this item regarding Calpine:

Meanwhile, the Davis administration's efforts to renegotiate the contracts continue, with an unfortunately familiar flavor of conflict of interest. The most important lobbyist for the state's backdoor bailout of Calpine, the San Jose power company, is actually a top state official -- Jeremiah Hallisey, a high-powered San Francisco lawyer (Standard Oil et al.) and longtime associate of Davis' from the Jerry Brown days, who now serves on the state Transportation Commission.

The two chief negotiators for the state are former L.A. Assemblyman Richard Katz, who had virtually no involvement with energy issues until last year and knows that the governor referred to the company as a "white-hat power generator," and Michael Kahn, another San Francisco lawyer, who represented the polluters in the infamous Stringfellow toxic-waste-dumping case.

Calpine is in danger of bankruptcy after the latest downgrade in its junk-bond-class credit rating and the canceling or delay of billions in power-turbine purchases.

This article is a month old, so hopefully the Simon campaign has changed some of their approach!

If BB believes the environment is the big issue, he ought to come to California and see for himself, instead of relying on hearsay and leaks from Bush-whackers. Bill Simon got on the Novermber ballot, without the help of the Bush Boys, and God-willing, he can make it in November without out caving into Rino demands, and sucking up to Parsky.

Simon can run a stealth campaign to defeat "Big Mouth Davis", and RINO reporters can "eat rocks."

AB 1058 Fast Track schedule--

3)Requires ARB to develop and adopt, no later than January 1, 2005, regulations that achieve the maximum feasible and vehicles. cost-effective reduction of greenhouse gases emitted by motor

4)Prohibits ARB regulations from going into effect before January 1, 2006, and provides that they may apply only to model-year 2009 or later motor vehicles.

By that time, there won't be a car engine designed in the US-- Here comes the WTO, because our laws are hurting foreign business investments, here.

IF I were running Simon's campaign I would have Simon leave on vacation and not talk to the media or campaign in public until after the election.

I would put all the campaign money in 10 second spots and billboards with just one message.

Vote for Bill Simon for Governor. Why? He is not Gray Davis. Thank You.

That just might do it.

You may have stumbled on the holy grail! Could this be why Calpine has been given preferential treatment all these months?

Not a bad idea if it were not for the illegals that Gray has helped him get elected. CA has become "teapot dome," instead of the 49er state.

Nice catch, snoper, and certainly completes a big piece of the puzzle that's stumped most of us for at least a year. Calpine had a cheerleader who had an inside track. But I still think there was money involved somewhere along the line. Davis doesn't do anything for anybody unless he gets money for it.

I am hoping for enough Greens to vote for the Green Party candidate to siphon votes from Liberal Patty Berg and give the win to Bob Brown R here in the First Assembly District. I beleive R. Nader got more Green votes percentage wise in Humboldt County than any where else. That is how Frank Riggs won the Congressional seat here a few years back.

Simon is just not letting the press define the campaign and good for him. Abortion is not an issue. Its here and we all have to live with it. It is legal. Now, I am against abortion, but now is not the time to be hanging on to that issue. He is a good man. He will be a great governor for CAlifornia.
