Okay, I'll admit I'm impressed. I've been extremely skeptical in past threads about how well Simon was doing in the polls. But this story indicates that Davis' high negatives are dragging him down to such a degree that even Simon's so-far-unexceptional campaign has a chance of succeeding. Assuming the rumored poll results are being accurately reported, the source (Employee Services Union) would have been expected to bias the poll numbers towards Davis.

The next few weeks will be very telling. It appears that Davis will be spending $12 million while Simon continues to wait it out. But Davis is simultaneously being battered by the budget crisis, and more scandal details. If Simon is still tied or ahead of Davis a month from now, then Davis is indeed in deep sh!t. On the other hand, if Davis has pulled ahead by 10 or 15 points, then Simon is in deep sh!t.

The Democrats are trying to get all the bad news out early - that's why we are seeing the scandal-a-day stories in the media. By September, they will be making Davis look like a saint, and calling Simon's criticisms "old news".

We've seen this act before.

Saw the adds last night by Davis. Boy, I sure hope Simon can win over this idiot. But I have to tell you.. even as I sat there and heard the adds say how Simon made his money off his Dad..and how Simon and ruined a company, and how it had failed miserably.. I thought, no matter what.. I still would never be able to vote for someone as incompetent as Davis.

Personally I think the wrong person got the Rep. Nomination. The best person, the one who was best qualified to handle this mess was Jones!!

In fact, I was thinking how cool it would be to have the first Governor voted in by write in ballot, from right here in California. VOTE JONES.. it is the only thing that makes sense!!!

Remember.. the only reason Jones didn't get the Republican nod..is because he backed McCain.

Here was the most qualified, the best choice, the most appealing, and because he backed McCain we don't back him.

Simon is going to have a hard time once the Davis spin machine gets going, because there are a TON of issues he has to explain. Like why he has never voted in a Republican Primary!! Like the failed business adventures he has. Just a lot of things.

So, If there was ever a BIG well advertised and well done bid for a "write in campaign for Jones"..I would back it!!

Otherwise, I'll vote for the lesser of two evils. Simon!

And this friends is a poll taken by a Rat friendly LIBERAL union! So Gray Davis and the liberal media can't spin this as a self-serving poll from Bill Simon's campaign. The real numbers aren't that Simon's leading, its that two thirds of Californians disapprove of the job Davis is doing as Governor. With numbers like that, no incumbent stands a chance of being reelected. Its big news since this is LIBERAL CALIFORNIA, a Rat fiefdom in which the conventional wisdom is a conservative GOP candidate has no chance whatsoever to beat a Rat. Yet not only does Davis have high negative ratings, at the beginning of summer, he finds himself having to get his base motivated. You shouldn't have to do that here. The kicker to this all is the only way Davis can possibly beat Simon is by going all out negative which will only serve to drive Davis' already high negative ratings even higher. Some people were wringing their hands wondering if Simon even had a chance. And then there's this poll of likely voters from a source that can hardly be described as a Simon boosterer that's confirmed for the most part he's doing everything else right. Right now bottom line, the only way Davis can hope to win in November is to make Simon look worse than Davis looks and I don't really see that taking off because Simon doesn't look like he scares any one and even the most liberal Rats who can't cotton to his politics can't bring themselves to dislike him as a person. Davis has one tall order of a job between here and November and the fun's only begun!

GO SIMON!!!

Just for fun, I visited our good pals at Democratic Underground, and searched for Gray Davis.

There were a whopping eight references, all of which were "in passing".

I think they know they have a loser on their hands ...

The poll ... of likely voters ... by the ... Service Employees International Union ... Simon at 42 percent to Davis' 34 percent. Green Party candidate Peter Camejo came in with 5 percent.
... Only 34 percent of those surveyed gave Davis a thumbs-up -- and 64 percent turned thumbs down.

Great news! (finally! The liberal news may now stop citing the late April -- before the Oracle scandal -- Field poll of 546 Californians.)

Any mention of this SEIU poll elsewhere, perhaps with info on the sample size and how they defined "likely voters?"

Don't forget, the polls don't account for Democrat vote fraud.
Tha eight point lead will be shaved by at least five percent due to Democrat vote fraud.
Republicans, keep up the pressure!

Thanks for the ping. Simon's lead is great, but it's too small and too soon to count on. The dems lie and cheat enough that I will only be certain of his success when I can see him seated. :)
