I agree that if the Simon camp sees that the ads are hurting him, they should respond. So far, they're not doing that. Below is a quote from Simon's consultant from another article:

"There is no way voters are going to stand for a six-month election campaign for governor," says Simon campaign chief Sal Russo. "When someone is taking the gun out to shoot themselves, you just don't want to say anything to make them shoot at you."

I think that says it all. Patience. It worked in the primary when everyone kept yelling at Simon to attack Riordan. He didn't do it early. He won by more than 18 pts. I'd stick with that strategy myself.

FYI: everyone (outside of politics like my liberal Republican mother) I have spoken to have disliked Davis' ads. I don't trust my own judgement because I despise the man, but I think they are weak.

Patience is a virtue that is not too present these days in many politicians or voters. Let Davi$ Shoot his Wad Now... Come September and October is when the real campaign begins.

I agree there's no need to respond so early if the Davis ads have no effect, but I hope Simon's campaign has some potential ads prepared so that they may respond quickly if things turn nasty.
