Polls show Californians are still prepared to support Davis over Simon in the November election. An April Field Poll found Davis beating Simon 43 to 29 percent among likely voters, with over a fourth undecided.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Geez, even the conservative news orgs are a bunch of idiots. This is the only poll [FROM APRIL!] that most media types bother to mention. It's also the ONLY POLL OUT OF SIX that I've seen in which Davis is leading. And, oh, his lead just happens to be 14 points. Mmm hmmm.

Folks, this race is a dead heat or a small Simon lead. Bet on it.

I think it's the only poll that was formally released, and so they go with it - but I share your frustration and was going to write a similar message (but of course you beat me to it).

What puzzles me is why they didn't ask the governor question as long as they're polling Californians on other things anyway.

Now that I know Simon is clever and capable on the attack, my last doubts about his probability of victory in November have faded. The public's raw opinion is split down the middle or close to it, but I predict Davis' base won't show up to help him, and Simon will win by over ten percentage points. Davis has simply not convinced people to care about him, and for good reason.
