California: Governor expects to sign air bill

Gov. Gray Davis said Wednesday that he is "strongly inclined" to sign legislation that would regulate vehicle emissions that contribute to global warming.

"In all probability I will," Davis said on KGO radio in San Francisco.

The measure would make California the first state to limit "greenhouse gas" emissions from passenger cars, minivans, pickups and sport-utility vehicles, beginning with the 2009 model year.

This bill could not be enacted in the normal manner. The bill was originally written as AB 1058 and when AB 1058 ran into opposition AB 1493 had the language changed to reflect the verbage of AB 1058 and was quickly shephered through the senate, in the dead of night, over a weekend. The Assembly approved it on Monday by a single vote majority.

If the original bill was any good why the need for deception?

What AB 1493 does is to give control of my life to a bunch of politicaly appointed hacks ( liberal ) that I can't vote out of office.

Wores than that, all the legislators that voted for it will be term limited out of office before it takes effect and the long time between now and November 98% of the voters won't even remember that the bill even exists so the socialist scum will no doubt be elected again.

Sounds just like the recently approved toll increases(Going up to $5 soon) on the Golden Gate Bridge.

A bureaucracy runs it and uses bridge toll proceeds to subsidize other transit programs. And you can not unelect them as they are not answerable to anyone, for all intent, they are above the law and the people.

Scary, what we have become, a truly unrepresented people with no recourse save overthrow of those institutions and organizations that are runamuck. And then we get labelled as the Bad Guys .. Go Figure!! This nation has been HiJacked and We Need to Take IT Back!

Don't count on it, lady. There was a time when California was the trendsetter, but since the lunatics took control, everything you do makes the rest of the country laugh.

This is stupid legislation that will cost Californians enormously and will provide zero benefit. None.

Here's the bottom line.

The gases that this legislation wants to reduce are the same gases produced by human respiration and are the natural products of the combustion of substances containing carbon in the presence of oxygen.

The only way to reduce these emissions is to reduce the volume of emissions being generated. This means either reducing engine RPM or the size (displacement) of the engine.

Effectively this legislation reduces the size (displacement) and available power produced by conventional engines.

Anybody know what restrictions if you purchase a vehicle in another state and register it in CA?

A fascinating point! Even the nitwits in the Calbanian Dissembly probably realize that they would be overstepping to try to force people moving into CA to buy a CA-standard vehicle.

The lawsuits would NEVER stop, courtesy of the Takings clause of the Fifth Amendment, which, last I looked, supersedes anything the Calbanian Dissembly can dream up.

None, except it has to meet the same registration (and emissions) requirements as a car built in CA. :(

As far as I can tell, this bill is every bit as meaningless as the previous mandate to force us to buy 10% electric cars. Whenever I point this out on other threads about it, I get a stony silence. I don't know if that's one of agreement or shocked disbelief that I would say such a thing.

How many electric cars do you see on the road today? I believe the most popular (okay, least unpopular) one was the GM EV-1, promoted with a massive advertising campaign. The EV-1 was sold at a loss that was close to its total purchase price, but still failed in the marketplace.

If Davis signs this bill - he will have just admitted he does not think he can win in November. That's fine with me! As soon as Bill Simon gets into office and also has a repub statehouse (which is very likely since a lot of dems are going to term limit out very soon), the repubs can get rid of that piece of garbage legislation.

Gray Davis has won Cameron Diaz's affections and Ed Begley's vote. What else has he won by going after SUV's? He's offended the auto workers, a key Rat constituency. He decided to write them off to lock up the enviro wacko vote. Smart politics GrayOut --- NOT!!!

I understand that politicians have found a way around this, namely by swapping offices. Term limits mean you have to leave your own job but you can be elected to someone elses. End result is that they're still there.
