A multimillion-dollar battle over legislation to regulate greenhouse gas emissions in California vehicles may be far from over, even though Gov. Gray Davis has said he is "strongly inclined" to sign the first-of-its-kind measure.

After waging an extensive but unsuccessful advertising and lobbying campaign to kill the bill, AB 1493, opponents said they are weighing possibilities ranging from referendum to litigation should Davis sign the proposal.

I predicted that the opponents of 1058/1493 wouldn't go quietly along with this monstrosity.

The initiative petition needs to be started immediatly and get on the November ballot!

I not only think it would pas but if Republicans running for the Senate and Assembly used it properly it might just be enough to unseat some democrats. The only thing holding it back is having for duffus to sign or veto it and if he delays long enough he just might make the time for signatures to short to accomplish.

Supporters call AB 1493 a much-needed step toward reducing global warming, but opponents label it "feel-good" legislation that doesn't substantively help the environment because California houses less than 1 percent of the world's population.

No. What it will accomplish is to make it impossible for anyone to get around in a car, which is what the liberals want. Anyone who uses an automobile exercises their God-given right to go wherever they choose, whenever the choose as often as they like.

This would not be the case on state-run public transportation. One more element in the life of the people for liberals to control.

While the proper response to such nonsense would be to go to Sacramento, strip the politicians naked, then throw their beaten and bruised bodies into the American River, people do not seem so disposed. So, the next best thing will be an initiative. I'll support such an initiative if the current office holder signs the bill
