The ISO is anticipating high loads and temperatures across the ISO Control Area.
The California ISO is declaring Restricted Maintenance Operations for the period from 07/09/2002 06:00 through 07/09/2002 22:00.
Restricted maintenance operations, as detailed in ISO Operating Procedure E-509, will be in effect.
Market participants are cautioned to avoid actions, which may unnecessarily jeopardize generator availability.

Just got a message from BPA that they are canceling some major transmission line maintenance.
I wonder if the folks at the State hearings trying to pin blame on power companies for price gouging are going to admit that their is a need for more generation in the state. I also wonder if the folks within California who are trying to stop power projects and trying to bust contracts are confident that they will never need that power. Could be an intersting summer.
Some folks at the ISO are getting a bit nervous as they should.

Folks are scrambling, but considering the amount of PNW hydro power, the lights should remain on unless a major transmission outage happens.
Could be a long hot summer for Davis, especially if there were a blackout. I don't think there will be a black out based on the amount of hydro power in the PNW, but if a transmission line were to have a problem, that would be another story.
Should give Davis and his political crowd something to think about.
There will be plenty of time to repair the equipment you run into the ground later.

Just think what Thursday will bring with a 5% to 7% increase in temperatures over today.
You know damn well that Davis will not get on television tonight and pleade for either a homeowner or business sacrafice. He'll just sit in his office and pray to the reelection gods.
I decided to see who has generation off line in unplanned outages and guess what it is Calpine, Mirant, and Reliant! This is like the good old days. Also part of 4 Corners is in an unplanned outage situation as well.

The next hour could get interesting!
As perverse as it may seem the best "political" contribution that conservative in northern California could make would be to go home tomorrow afternoon and Thurdays afternoon and consume as much elecrtical energy as possible.
Could be $25 to $50 well spent if the system is brought down on Davis' head.
The Cal ISO graphs seem to indicate that the portion of California controlled by Davis is going to have less than a 2% electric reserve by 4 p.m. today.
A couple things, yes the graphs do indicate that the Cal Iso is approaching the ragged edge, but the available generation has been derated to include minimal reserves. However, if you look at tomorrows forecast load, things could be interesting.
What I find interesting is that it is early July, the PNW has lots and lots of hydro, the big California nuke plants are on-line, and California is on the edge. That is not good news. There are some big unplanned outages, which could be part of the problem, but still, this is the time of the year that California should be ready for the big loads.
A long hot summer could be a real problem for the State of California, expecially if a wildfire were to close a transmission line or a major power plant were to have a long unplanned outage.
Oh course Gov. Davis told us all that he could solve the power crisis in just 15 minutes, if he wanted to! He just has had the motivation to solve it, I guess. (/sarcasm)

Historically the last three weeks in July have the highest, yearly, average mean daily temperatures. That number is just under 100F in my area
Things seem to have hit the fan!
