DAVIS POWER CRISIS EXTENDS TO THIRD SUMMER California Experiences Second Stage One Alert of Year

FRESNO - For the second time this year, California has experienced a Stage one power alert, once again exposing Governor Gray Davis' failure to get a handle on the energy crisis that has plagued the second half of his administration.

"The fact that the state is once again at the point where it has to consider curtailing the availability of power to various users is deplorable," declared gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon.

"Gray Davis has hosted numerous public events where he has taken credit for boosting California's available energy supply. Almost all of the energy supplies he has claimed credit for were the work of previous administrations, and his failure to act in the last two years is once again putting California in jeopardy for interrupted power supplies," Simon concluded.

Peak demand today reached 41,778 megawatts, which actually exceeded the total amount of power available early in the day, which was only 41,000 megawatts.

With warm weather expected to continue for the next 36-48 hours the state's power grid will continue to be pushed to the limit and Gray Davis' inability to lead will continue to be exposed.

This will only drive GrayDown's already terrible negative ratings UP even more at a time when he's looking for relief. Looks like he's feeling the effects of the heat.

And the heat of the summer has just begun. August and September are the hottest months of the year, at least in So Cal.

Go Simon!

I would hate to be the owner of any plant that tripped off line due to a failure of some kind right now. Especially if that owner was...say...Mirant, or Duke, or...

Tell the Simons campaign that this was much more serious than a Stage 1 Alert, it was a Stage 1 Emergency. That is a big difference. The press release needs to be expanded upon, check out some of the later threads for more information.
