Republican 'obstructionists' Eric Hogue praises California GOP legislators

When you are called an "obstructionist" for a legitimate reason, aren't you really behaving like a hero?

California Gov. Davis' $25 billion budget-deficit solution has been placed on ice for the time being in Sacramento. This after Sen. Maurice Johanesseen, R-Redding, sold out for the second year in a row and handed the Democrats their majority for the $99 billion Davis plan.

The budget now rests with the State Assembly where the GOP holds the minority. The GOP also hold four coveted votes that the Democrats need to pass their "candy list" for a Davis election-year budget cover job.

To this point, the Republican obstructionists are holding serve – and some are saying they may be gaining the advantage!

The difference of opinion? The usual: The Democrats want to attempt to cover a $25 billion shortfall by raising taxes on mostly poor- and middle-income working families, as well as doubling the state car tax without cutting the "candy money" for their pet agendas and projects.

The Republicans, on the other hand, are asking for an additional $5 billion in spending cuts. These Republican obstructionists talk of real math equations … that raising taxes this year will not cover a continual slide that may see an additional deficit of $10 billion next year.

"It's the spending stupid!"

Now that the Senate has placed the budget in the Republican Assembly hands, there are the normal GOP deal makers who are ready to ask Monty Hall for Door Number Three in exchange for personal pork back home.

Republican Assemblymen Dickerson and Kelley are known to be ready to play "Let's Make A Deal" any day. Don't fret just yet … remember that the Democrats need four votes – and no matter how you alter educational curricula in California, two does not equal four … yet!

For the first time since the Reagan Era, there seems to be a little swagger in the GOP caucus and minority.

While the media continues to refer to them as "obstructionists," "inhumane" and "not rational" because they want a budget that doesn't raise taxes in a state that has uncontrollable spending and scandalous leadership in Gov. Davis' office, the GOP continues to display unity and purpose. Something that Republicans had lost in recent years!

One of the encouraging factors may be the Democrats themselves. All that GOP members need to do for their caucus-room pep talk is post the daily news stories surrounding the decaying Democrat leadership and Davis regime.

Just this past week, former chairman of the Joint Investigative Audit Committee, Assemblyman Dean Florez – who has been targeted by Speaker Herb Wesson and the Democratic caucus for doing his job during the Oracle investigation, has mentioned that he will not support the Davis budget as it stands. Add to the mix Assemblywoman Helen Thompson, D-Davis, who has said the same, although her reasons are that the budget doesn't tax the people enough.

Whatever the reason, the Democrats are having trouble. There is infighting in the caucus. There is scandal after scandal – each day. Most of all, there is no sign of leadership and direction. The budget looks to be stalled and the GOP is smiling from their position of minority.

This is why the time is ripe for California families and the fiscally responsible to share some love upon the GOP Assembly Members.

On my morning talk show, 1380 KTKZ, we are offering a visual and tangible means of saying "thank you" to the "Republican obstructionists." By simply visiting Flowers For Our Friends, you can send the GOP members a flower for just $10 … plus tax of course!

While the Democrats are fighting, the Republicans are sharing the love. There is no better encourager than the love and support of a flower on the Assembly floor while you watch the venom of Speaker Herb Wesson and the Democrat Caucus eat their own.

As Speaker Wesson tries to pull the Democrats together and deal for four Republican votes, the GOP is smelling the beauty of unity – and love – from tax payers and citizens of California who are tired of carrying the burden of fiscal irresponsibility and poor leadership.

It's time to act, people of California! If you want the tide to turn, the time is now for your voice to be heard by the GOP members in the Assembly.

These "Republican obstructionists" still have the chance to be real heroes. And you still have the chance to show them that that is exactly what you want them to be!

Be sure and see this:

California: Official tells of budget deficits (5 more years with current plan )

A highlight from the linked article:

Legislative Analyst Elizabeth Hill estimates that if the Assembly adopts and Gov. Davis signs the $99 billion budget approved last month by the Senate, the deficit total over the next five years could reach $51.6 billion.
