1943: First recognized episodes of smog occur in Los Angeles during the summer. Visibility is limited to three blocks, people suffer nausea, smarting eyes and respiratory problems.

2000: ARB upholds the Zero Emission Vehicle rule. Modified in the courts, the rule requires carmakers to build up to 15,450 ZEV cars - basically electric cars - beginning next year.

This one has been a fiasco.

2002: Gov. Gray Davis signs law requiring ARB to set up tailpipe limits for climate-altering greenhouse gases. The new rules will take effect in 2009 models.

This one is just a tax that will work backwards.

Note that they don't mention MTBE and Smog Check II. Both have been disasters.

The lovely and exciting Deirdreanna e-mailed and asked me the following question about California Governor, Gray Davis:

"gee, if our governor is so upset about co2.. perhaps he should refuse
tourists and immigrants (from other states and countries) and restrict our
breathing. Are there any stats as to how much co2 we exhale daily? "

After donning my knight-in-shining-armor suit, I diligently researched and found the following:

Try this:
http://trfn.clpgh.org/wpawma/co2.htm
A quote from it: "Over the course of a year, an average human expires more than half a metric TON of carbon dioxide gas"

Another California CO2 source that needs to be addressed:
http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/prepare/factsheets/CO2/
A quote from the page: "A preliminary estimate of the current rate of CO2 gas emission at Mammoth Mountain is 1,300 tons per day."

Governor Gray Davis, are you listening???
:)
