Here's the AP story from Boston.com.   This has to be heartbreaking for the family.

Husband charged in murder of Rep. Frank's niece

ARLINGTON, Va. -- A 44-year-old Arlington man was charged with murder after he allegedly strangled his wife, the niece of U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass.

Susan Lewis, 41, was unconscious and suffering from a neck wound when she was found Monday at her home in Arlington, police said. She died later at the hospital.

Her husband, James W. Powell Jr., was treated for self-inflicted stab wounds and taken into custody at the hospital, Matt Martin, a police spokesman, told the Washington Post . Powell was being held without bail at an Arlington County jail.

Lewis was the daughter of former White House communications director Ann Lewis, who is Frank's sister.

Frank's office issued a statement saying, "The family of Susan Lewis is deeply devastated by her death. She was a wonderful woman whom we will all miss terribly. We ask people to respect our desire to deal with our tragic loss with each other in private."

The couple has a young son, who was with a baby sitter at the time of the incident. The child is now with relatives.

The congressman canceled a scheduled appearance yesterday at Boston University, saying only that there had been a death in the family.

She worked for Clinton during his administration. She would come on all the talk shows, Hannity and Colmes, Hardball, Larry King, etc. and defend him. Especially during the Lewinsky scandal.

Husband Charged In Murder Of Congressman's Niece
Barney Frank's Niece Died Monday

POSTED: 2:29 pm EDT April 14, 2004

BOSTON -- Tragedy has struck the family of Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank whose niece was found murdered in her Virginia home Monday.

NewsCenter 5's Steve Sbraccia reported that Arlington, VA., police have charged Susan Lewis' husband with murder.

A baby sitter returning to the Lewis household with the couple's 3-year old son said she discovered Lewis unconscious on the floor and Lewis' husband, James Powell, with stab wounds.

Officials rushed Lewis to the hospital, where she later died. Powell was treated at the hospital for what police have described as self-inflicted stab wounds to his arms.

Lewis, 41, is the daughter of Ann Lewis, a Democratic National Committee official, and niece to Frank.

Frank issued a statement Wednesday saying "the family of Susan Lewis is deeply devastated by her death. She was a wonderful woman whom we will all miss terribly."

Police charged Powell, 44, at the hospital with his wife's murder.

The couple resided in their Arlington neighborhood for about five years and was reportedly last seen by neighbors Saturday while participating in a local Easter egg hunt.

Investigators have not released a possible motive for the murder.

Powell remains hospitalized and is being held without bail.

No matter how I feel about Ann Lewis politically, having a family member murdered is horrendous.

Five will get you ten she makes a crusade of some sort out of it.

AHA! That must have happened because of the subliminal message from Bush's tie last night!

I knew the communists would find a way to blame this on GWB.

I can't stand her either, but she and the family will certainly be in my prayers. I cannot imagine the grief.

I bet President Bush will send private condolences, then to only be later called Hitler by Ann and Barney.

While not meaning to disrespect the family's tragic loss, at least the husband didn't use a gun. Pretty hard even for the Left to outlaw hands (husband strangled her).
