"I think it to our interest to punish the first insult; because an insult unpunished is the parent of many others." --Thomas Jefferson to John Jay, 1785. ME 5:95, Papers 8:427
Al-Sadr is an insult that if pocketed in Syria will lead to conflagration.
Every American will be insulted if Al-Sadr is allowed to escape without punishment.
President Bush cannot affoprd to let Al-Sadr go into exile.

On the other hand, we don't need a martyr at this particular time.

Great - he's being shipped to Syria like the other weapons of mass destruction.

I thought he was backed by Iran. Better to exile him to Iran so that Iran moves up the list.

To hell with martyrs. Alive he is worse - DEAD --- well, he's dead and we can always accomodate those who wish to join him.
Kerry agrees with you.

He needs to be humiliated.
Exile to Syria grants him way too much status.
He is more dangerous in exile than as a martyr.

I am so sick of the "Don't make Sadr a martyr" crowd.
They are disgusting appeasers.
Either try to win this thing 100% or get our troops out of that hellhole.
Halfway fought wars are ALWAYS losers.

MAJOR mistake!
Remember when the Shah of Iran exiled the Ayatolla Khomeini, instead of killing him? He lived to regret it and the Iranian people are still the victim of that one, overly generous gesture.
Mad dogs need to be put down. Sadr is a mad dog.

I don't believe this for a minute, but I wish it was true.
Leave him alone. Let him move to Syria. Kill him around mid-November.

Syria is perfect, the Jordanian thwarted attack has moved Syria up the list.
You will notice that President Bush has been very quiet about Syria, and Iran is about to up the anti to a point where we are going to have to go in there to protect our military and Iraqi civilians.
The plan is coming together very well.
And everyone thought that Bush had no exit strategy...LOL we exit East, then West.
