Did I read somewhere that each plane crashed 24 minutes into their flights?

I hadn't heard that, but, whether true or not, we will hear that as a part of conspiracy theories for years to come.

Yes, that is odd. Just some touristy-type stuff on the Caucasus featured now.

Kavkaz will have the videos soon though....in about a month or two, since it takes that long to get them to Turkey or Saudi Arabia or where ever Movladi is hiding out these days. Maybe in Bosnia.

They must be too far from the substation to get broadband Internet connectivity :) At least thats the excuse I always get when I inquire about the same thing.

If an event occurs at random with a probability per five minute interval of 1/100,000 (i.e. once a year on average ) then two of these events may be expected to occur in the same five minute interval about once every 100,000 years.

Actually, once every 200,000 years, as given by the second term of the Poisson distribution. ( counting 0,1,2, ... )

The logic is this: If you "sprinkle" an infinite number of events over an infinite number of intervals with an average of one event per 100,000 intervals, then you can look at each event and say there is a 1/100,000 chance of another event occurring in the same interval, but you will then count the double event twice, because you look at both events.

... or, you can figure that at the start of the interval you are waiting for the first event, and when it occurs you start waiting for the second, so it has on average only half an interval in which to occur.

"Boy, never would have thought Moscow to Athens was only 400 miles."

It's not 400 miles. Moscow to Athens is 1,388 miles.

You can determine distance between world capitals here.

If that map is configured for 212 miles from London to Paris, then it is far more than 400 miles from Moscow to Athens, just using my eye. If I get a ruler out, I think 1400+ miles would be more likely. Help me here!!
You nailed it -- Moscow to Athens is 1,388 miles.

It wasn't a lecture and I wasn't jumping on you. I was simply pointing out what is known about human memory, and what we know about it is that it gets rewritten constantly, that whenever the mind is presented with something that conflicts with its memory of an event there's a good chance the old version of the memory will lose, and subsequently eye witness testimony isn't reliable and shouldn't be held up as the holy grail method to determine what actually happened.

As for being opinionated check the thread, I never put forth a theory as to what happened, I was waiting for the facts before forming an opinion.

Maybe what you need to learn is to not get so angry and defensive anytime somebody disagrees with you.

Not enough facts in yet, but it looks like 2 jihaterkazis coordinated their "missions" on board each plane to me.
Not just a bomb on each plane, but bombs wielded by one or more jihaters on their favored suicide-mass-murder via plane mode.

It's a shame that many Americans are still in a Cold War mentality visavis the Russians.

The peoples of Russia and America have some similarities, Russia's eastward push in the 1800's mirrors America's push west.

It's too bad that our geopolitical considerations, particularly not wanting to go after the Saudis hard, creates a weird dissonance in our rhetoric regarding terror. Even now, we still tend to view the Chechnyans as freedom fighters and not jihadis, while overlooking the extensive Saudi funding and ideological fervor emanating from the GUlf states.

Bet the earlier Bus stop bombing was a "go" signal!

I was listening to Bachelor's radio show last night and his guest, John Loftus, thinks the package that exploded at the bus stop was designated for a third plane but the operative backed out or just didn't make it there in time.

Can't agree more.If Russia gives up Chechnya as some folks suggest it should,it would be giving a gold embossed invitation to A.Q & like minded NGOs to spread their tentacles throughout Central Asia & the Caucusus. Most people don't seem to realise ,that if Russia had'nt got tough in Chechnya, the US "alliances" with countries like Kazakhistan & it's operations in Afghanistan would'nt have been half as smooth as they are now.Chechnya is integral to Russia staying together(& they have every right to) & also keeping the Slammies in check in a part of the world with the largest unexplored energy resources(which is part of the reason for US interest in the region).

I think you're right. Too many *signs* that something's afoot in the shadows.

I'm ready, here in Penna. For the past week, I've been carrying my AR-10A4 (.308cal) with 6 x 20-round fully-loaded mags, Leupold Mark 4 CQ/T Glass and a battle pack of 200 more, in addition to my regular Kimber "Target Eclipse II" 1911A1 .45cal ACP daily carry.

I've got 3 nuke plants within 40 miles - one north, one southeast, and one due east - and some large population centers; all target rich opportunities.

Widespread airline probing events, lots of MEs filming bridges and buildings etc, NEST Teams doing extra training on Saturday around here, PEMA conducting mass casualty training at the fairgrounds, and other subtle signs.

Is this the article?

Ping on that -- Russia today is the kind of ally we need -- and Putin's a straight shooter, no-nonsense kind of guy.

Gee whiz I understood what you said the first time.
Maybe it was the condescending attitude that I didn't like.
Angry and defensive? How weird you would attribute attitudes that were not present. If my answer to you was 'anger' read it again.
It wasn't so much disagreement as your feeling compelled to inform me of your opinions--- 'opinions'--- which caused me to see that you're opinionated. nbd
Obviously I do disagree with you though. Experience usually trumps book learning IMHO.
I hope this makes you stronger.

There was no condescending attitude, and if you think there was you clearly didn't understand what I said the first time. It's obvious that both of your replies are filled with anger and being totally defensive.

Again I did not inform you of my opinion, thus showing again that you clearly didn't understand what I said. I was informing you of FACTS, the FACTS are that eyewitness testimony is junk, there's no opinion there, just facts.

Actually I learned about the fallibility of human memory with experience, not just book learning. We did an experiment in PSY101 where we watched a video of a car accident and answered some questions about it. One of the questions asked if the truck in the accident had a gun rack, 39 of the 44 people in the class answered either yes or no to that question (I answered yes)... there was no truck in the accident, there was no truck on screen at any point in the video, and yet 39 people's memory of what they'd just seen minute earlier were altered by that one question. Experience.

As the turn-of-the-century British poem read:

Whatever happens, we have got
The Maxim gun, and they have not.

"Arrest in the two shot dead on the beach in Cal. Good news. "

Was it the alcoholic skate boarder?

We were just south of that area on the beach below the Russian River. I was trying catch a salmon in the Russian River before seals got them.

Is this where you were fishing?

No Harbor Seals there yesterday.

If this is where you were, FR mail me next time, and I'll go fishing with you!

We can BBQ some Salmon and Seal...

:<)

Oh, and were there a lot of these guys there?

It looks like the skateboarding hippie is off the hook. I sure hope they catch whoever did that.

Oh and remember the shark attack on an Ab diver a week or so by Fort Bragg?

A friend of mine was Ab diving just 10 miles south of there. Made her think...
