Report: Top Bin Laden deputy caught in Pakistan (al-zawahri caught?)
Jerusalem Post ^

Posted on 09/27/2004 10:25:24 AM PDT by jbwbubba

Top Bin Laden deputy Ayman al-Zawahri has been caught in Pakistan, according to a report from the region quoted on Israel Radio Monday.

Pakistani forces operating against al Qaida strongholds in the country report capturing the Egyptian national, who was formerly the head of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, which operated in the past against the Egyptian regime.

Earlier Monday, the US commander of coalition forces in Afghanistan Lieutenant-General David Barno told Reuters that there is little evidence of al Qaida fighters still in Afghanistan, and that Pakistan's crackdown on al Qaida-linked operatives has made life harder for fugitives hiding in tribal areas near the Afghan - Pakistani border.

Careful. The Jerusalem Post has a habit of broadcasting good news for us that turns out to be false.

If this is true, look for the Dems to immediately come out claiming that the Administration has had him for months and that this is timed to help Bush.

Pakistanis are denying it, at least for now. It probably isn't true.

There is another thread running where the Pakistanis are denying the capture to Reuters.

I do wish they would get this guy.

This is the Egyptian doctor guy.

We have seen previous reports of his supposed capture the last few years.

Hopefully, this time it is true. Time will tell.

The Jordanian al-Zarqawi in Iraq is a serious threat, too. If he isn't taken out (killed), he will become a much worse nightmare than bin Laden, especially if he gets financial backing.

Will this mean that Mama-T was sort of correct in her Osama prediction.

There is another thread running

You mean the other one already running in "breaking news" when this thread started?

I won't believe it until I see al Zawahari and his dented head doing the Perp Walk.

How come every time some two-bit camel-jockey is caught, he's a "top Bin Laden aid"?

I'm beginning to wonder if al Qaeda isn't all chiefs, no Indians.

Why can't they just say, "Yet another meaningless nobody caught in Pakistan"?
