(CNSNews.com) - President Bush's joke about John F. Kerry drew a sharp retort from the Democrat on Monday.Campaigning in Ohio, President Bush said of Kerry, "'He voted for the use of force, but against funding the troops. He said that we're not spending enough money to reconstruct Iraq, yet now says we're spending too much. He said it was the right decision to go into Iraq, yet now he calls it the wrong war.
"I think he can spend 90 minutes debating himself," the president said to laughter.
Responding to the jibe, Kerry said, "When U.S. soldiers are in harm's way, the American people don't want jokes and fantasy spin from their president, they want to hear the truth."
Kerry said President Bush "refused to confront reality and admit that he recklessly rushed to war, that his wrong choices have left Iraq in chaos and that he has no plan to win the peace.
"It's time for George Bush to deal with reality and confront the hard truths that our soldiers face every day in Iraq," Kerry said.
President Bush told his supporters on Monday, "It's been a little tough to prepare for the debates" because his opponent "keeps changing his positions -- especially on the war." Press reports said Bush is expected to take that line in Thursday night's debate.
Meanwhile, the latest polls continue to give President Bush higher marks than Kerry for "personality" and "likeability."
According to ABC News, "More voters continue to dislike [Kerry] than to like him personally, and most prefer Bush across a range of issues and attributes, from terrorism and Iraq to honesty and leadership.""
ROFLMAO!!! That is just TOO funny!
Getting tired of Kerry telling us what Americans want.
Ouch.
Presidents have been making jokes while campaigning for as long as the United States has been in existance. Even Lincoln joked during the Civil War. Kerry is truly retarded
My question stands as asked.
Kerry's whine was about Americans not wanting jokes from their President.
Immediately below that, was the response "Americans don't want a joke FOR president".
Immediately below that was your statement, America doesn't want jokes as president.
I couldn't tell if your statement was a response to Kerry, or as a response to the response to Kerry.
Based on your response to me, I now have my answer.
Well said!!
No points are awarded for pointing out the obvious. The obscure is a different matter.
All the time.
(Yawn.)
European 60 year old men wear spandex bikinis in public - makes you want to poke your eyes out with a stick. 60 year old AMERICAN MEN do not....in public anyway. :o)
...The American people don't want jokes from their President...
Seems to me that sKerry has added a new dimension to his repertoire of so highly evolved skills; clairvoyance.
He has no clue what the American people want from their President, obfuscated by his hippity hoppity flippity floppities.
I need a pill.
Precisely why we won't vote for YOU, John!
LOL That was too easy - quit feeding us the straight lines JFK!
Bush: Then stop being one.
That's the first thing that came to mind when I read the title.
Will the real John Kerry please stand up?
Hey kerry, look in the mirror to see the biggest joke.
I haven't laughed this hard in awhile.
