Dr. Robert Sullivan at Duke University Medical Center told the Times that after 24 hours without any food, "the body goes into a different mode and you're not hungry anymore," he said. ...

UTTER BALDERDASH!

I've gone 24 hours without food on several occasions, and was profoundly hungry at that point.

"Total starvation is not painful or uncomfortable at all..

Try executing a condemned murderer by dehydration/starvation and this guy would be screaming at the top of his lungs about "cruel, unusual and inhuman punishment".

"You can't go hunting if you're hungry."
One can't go hunting if you are dehydrated either and suffering from heat stroke. What a maroon.

"I've gone 24 hours without food on several occasions, and was profoundly hungry at that point."

I have gone on a deliberate three day fast two or three times and the hunger did go away after twenty four to thirty six hours, after three days I sat beside someone who was eating bacon and eggs for breakfast and had no desire to join in. Having said that let me hasten to add that I was drinking fruit juice the whole time and the hunger does return later on. Advocates of fasting say that the time to resume eating is when a raging hunger returns. The time without food is said to eliminate toxins from the body. I have not done this in almost thirty years since experimenting with it. I certainly don't believe this is a painless way to die, it is probably excrutiating.
