Feet to The Fire Graphic

America needs your help. Illegal aliens and their friends in Congress are trying to derail legislation that would strengthen our borders and keep illegal immigrants from getting driver's licenses. It's time to come to Washington, D.C. and tell Congress in person what you have been telling them over the phone and in letters and faxes. This is your chance to tell Congress directly — we're tired of America selling out to cheap labor and corruption.

Roger HedgecockNow's the time to join Roger Hedgecock, top rated radio talk show host in San Diego, California (KOGO/AM 600), and the FAIR Congressional Task Force as they lead an immigration reform army to Washington, D.C. April 23-28, 2005.

Over the last 10 years, Roger has taken large groups of his listeners to Washington, D.C. to lobby Congress on key issues. This year he is mobilizing some of America's most influential radio personalities from around the country in a national effort culminating in direct citizen lobbying for immigration reform.

Some of the dynamic radio hosts joining Roger in this crusade are John and Ken (KFI, Los Angeles), Bruce Jacobs (KFYI, Phoenix), Mike Siegel (KTTH, Seattle), Lars Larson (Westwood One), and Melanie Morgan (KSFO, San Francisco) to name a few.  They will be broadcasting live, discussing the need for immigration reform and interviewing congressional leaders.

We are taking our message directly to Congress, and we need your help. Sign up today to visit Washington, D.C. this April and make your voice heard.

Join us in Washington, D.C. as we confront Congress and demand:

Feet to the Fire Group

The time for complaining is over. The time to rise up is long overdue. The time for action is NOW!!

The tentative schedule of activities is as follows:

*Congressman Duncan Hunter will have his office open to us on the 25th, 26th & 27th. He has graciously invited us to stop by for refreshments. (Your Congressperson may have a similar reception planned).

For information on event details, contact FAIR at 202-328-7004. To make travel arrangements email for flight or hotel booking or call 703-556-6561 and mention the Hold Their Feet to the Fire Event.

Yes, the United Socialist Universal Republic of the People (U.S.U.R.P.). A beautiful dream, isn't it?

I can in some way understand your reservations, I am strongly in favor of curbing immigration to Iceland even more than it allready is. But I have allways seen USofA as THE immigrant nation that welcomes a lot of immigrants that help make it strong, as you have enough room, free enough economic system and are not burdened with preserving a cultural homogenity like we do.

But I understand that you want to control the immigration more than the failed system of now does, f.e. by try to take immigration from more broader bacground than all those that are flooding over your south borders. I beliewe having immigrants from one special cultural bacground can hinder their integration into the existing society, so I want few immigrants, but from as broad background as possible, although I beliewe we should here in Iceland also focus on getting people from related cultures, although if we have to big a group from one single country or culture their integration can become hard. Maybe these people can be an asset to both of our countries:

I would have thought that the Patriot Act would give your government more rights (similar to most other western countries) of using information from different sources to find illegal aliens, it has f.e. always bedazzled me that an illegal alien can send his kids to school in the US, get a library card, get a bank or credit card or even get a driving licence. But I also understand the danger of allowing the government to much information, Big brother comes to the mind, people should continue to be free from the government in the US, wich is founded on that principle.

One question finally, does Bush´s plan of guestworkes (gastarbeiter) not give the US greater control over its immigration, by hindering illegal immigration by recognising the situation on the ground, but also get more control who comes and for how long?

"I can't go either but I plan to specifically support this effort which coincidentally is nicely timed with the Minuteman Project with irate calls to my Congress critters."

Good idea Jack. Along these lines, does anybody know which Committees of the House and Senate are most directly connected to this issue? They need calling also (in addition to our own Senators and Representatives.)

Yeah, and that's a tough swim into Iceland. This issue relates to illegal immigrants, not legals. I imagine that is hard to do in your country.

In theory any guestworker program would give the USA greater control over illegal immigration but in practice I don't see it making any difference. We already have a lot of good laws on the books that are supposed to penalize people who employ illegals, they just don't get enforced. False IDs and employer intent are too hard to prove.

It's a tough situation and I certainly think we need better controls on our southern border but I'm not sure of the best way to go about it. I've lived on the South Texas border for most of my life. The growth along the Rio Grande river(the border)from Brownsville to McAllen has been explosive to say the least. No small part of it has been fueled by illegal labor. I can't blame the illegals who want to come and work and live here. If you ever travel in Mexico or Central America you can see the squalor that many of them attempt to flee. Many can't read or write so their chances of crossing legally are slim, so they cross illegally. Many are hard working moral people who want a better life for themselves and their families. Unfortunately, many are criminals, and possibly terrorists.

I have yet to see what I consider a workable plan to secure our borders. I do believe however that we need to secure our borders with both Mexico and Canada.

Actually the head of our immigration/foreigners office some time ago said it was likely that there were a lot of illegal aliens in Iceland, that came to most of us that listened to a great surprise. Now finally the unions and authorities have started measures and projects to find out how much it is and how to curb it.

The problem is that our island status does not do anything for us any more, at least toward the EU countries, as we have become members of the Schengen agreement, that opens our borders to the outside EU border, and thus hinders our border policy to patrol the border effectively, as it is effectively in the mediterrian sea and far in the woods of East Europe.

This is due to the constant EU "ever closer union" policy that takes over more and more aspects of the individual countries powers. Thankfully we can still opt out of this system, hopefully we soon will.

I'll happily support a bill that actually denies drivers' licenses to Illegal Aliens. All H.R. 418 actually is is a National ID bill.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Iceland is a democracy, where you can protect your rights. The EU is not truly democratic. I have a feeling the drift toward EU domination is probably stalling, especially if the Frebch reject the Constitution.

Just today, Roger Hedgecock gave a statistic, on Rush's show, that I have been looking for for at least a year! I have wanted to see, statistically, what percentage of felons convicted in this country are illegals. According to Roger, one-quarter of convicted felons in California are illegals. (It answered part of my query, I wanted national figures!) Does anyone know what the percentage is nationally.

I watch "Cops", "American Justice", "Cold Case Files", etc., all the time and am constantly amazed at the number of Hispanics (how many are illegal, I would like to know)involved in crime in this country.

You know what statistic is going to be interesting. By what percentage does crime go down in the USA during the phase II Minuteman project this coming June where they plan to have a presence all along our southern border from California to Texas. I read somewhere recently that they already have over 10,000+ interested volunteers.

If the current volunteer 'project' wasn't a wakeup call to President Bush and members of Congress the next one that covers the whole southern border surely will IMHO.

If I may add a few additional points to this discussion without prejudice. I was always under the impression this country once belonged to someone else - the Native Americans. It was taken from them by force and the manipulation of their naivete. From that precept it might seem that we we're all "illegal" immigrants to the USA. The travelers on the Mayflower were not born in the USA but eventually millions of USA citizens were born of those first immigrants and presumably conferred upon their offspring non-immigrant status. So when did "immigration" really stop? When their were a sufficient number of "born-here native" Americans? When a sufficient number of railroads had been built using cheap immigrant labor? When slavery was ablished? Oddly slaves born in this country were hardly given citizen's rights - were they inherently inferior in some way or was (is?) their "image" born and maintained through prejudice? Is this great country in such a fiscal or moral decline that there is no room left for anyone not born here to live here, no matter what the individual's circumstances or qualities? Are we to accept specialist doctors or surgeons, scientists, financial benefactors and any others who contribute in some uniquely special way to our country but not accept those of lesser standing who seek freedom, the opportunity to work and to live in freedom without fear and the live the "dream" of democracy. One might consider just why some of these "undesirable" illegal aliens apparently constitute a larger than statistical normal proportion of our criminal society: possibly as has been said, "Take away poverty and you take away crime." Or perhaps it is simply easier to believe that Americans are inherently better or more "correct" than other people or race. We have it all right ... they have it all wrong? I wonder how many (Hispanic or other) illegal immigrants were confined to Alcatraz or Sing Sing et al so many years ago. Dillinger, Capone, Diamond and so many others hardly present us with the pious right to say how superior we are or were compared to all other "inferior" races. Should we keep America as a symbol of freedom and understanding only for Americans ... or a reality for the rest of the world. My political views are neither leftist, rightist, nor do they lean towards either (ultra) conservativism or (ultra) liberalism. They do lean toward humanism. Jeux sans frontieres? Usual disclaimers.

Is that what was said? I was doing something else at the time and perhaps heard it wrong. I thought it was that 1/4 of fugitives from justice in CA are illegals.

Can someone clarify what this statistic really is?

Heard an interview with the LA county sheriff; 23% of prisoners in the LA county jails are illegals.

On April 1st, 2005 there was a tea party in Tombstone, Az. Like the Boston Tea Party, this tea party was known as the Minuteman Project. History will say this was the day when American patriots were heard saying, "We are pissed of and we have had enough of open borders and the illegal invasion of the United States of America."
Washington D.C. is nervous now. Congress has failed the American people and so has the past three administrations.
